Rouse High School Swim Booster Club General Meeting Minutes Jan. 11, 2016 Call to Order General meeting called to order by Ken Demoski at 6:31pm on January 11, 2016 at the Rouse High School Athletic Hall.

Approval of minutes from last meeting The October 13, 2015 general booster meeting minutes were approved by the members. Minutes are posted on swim booster website (rouseswimming.swimtopia.com)

New Business A) Treasurer Report a. Peter Grady gave the Treasurer report: i. Total: $7,912.15 1. Checking: $7,634.68 2. Savings: $277.47 ii. Boosters and Swim Team raised $4,003.56 from Snapraise fundraiser. iii. Boosters and Swim Team raised $954.00 from the Bellini’s fundraiser. b. Budget i. Boosters have purchased $322.80 worth of weight equipment for swimmers to use in the weight room. ii. Boosters donated the $75 worth of canned goods (that were purchased for the Round Rock meet in Oct that was canceled) to the RHS School Council for their Food Drive in Nov. iii. Boosters spent approximately $94 worth of food for the team Thanksgiving dinner. iv. Boosters spent approximately $150 worth of food and drinks for the team Christmas party. c. Upcoming i. Regional towels will be purchased and embroidered. These will be given to the swimmers who advance to Regionals. 1. Vicki Schaefer has 3-4 towels left over from last year that we need to decide what to do with. (This year’s towels are a different color.) ii. Boosters will sponsor a team dinner after Districts Friday meet (Jan. 29, 2016).

1. Location TBD. iii. Boosters will help subsidize the cost of meals for swimmers who advance to Regionals. 1. LISD only covers $8 a day for the cost of meals. B) Committees a. Banquet/Team Socials: i. This year our End of the Year Banquet will be held at the Avery Ranch Country Club on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016. We are looking at a start time of 6:00-6:30pm 1. Avery Ranch will provide food and drinks and set up/clean up after the event. 2. The cost will be $18 per person. a. Swimmers meal will be covered by the boosters. b. Merchandise/Meals: i. District Shirts will be long sleeve performance tees. Swimmers voted on either maroon or white. Maroon won. 1. Shirts will cost $26 each for family members. a. Swimmers cost will be $10 per shirt. 2. Swimmers will receive an email from Jayme Ingram requesting shirt sizes. a. Shirts will need to be ordered by Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 in order for them to arrive on time. ii. The start time for Districts looks to be 4:30pm on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016. Lunch will be provided during the bus ride to compensate for those who had C lunch. 1. Time frame for Districts was incorrect: Friday’s prelim will start at 9:20am & Saturday’s finals will start at 12:20pm. 2. Boosters are looking at serving breakfast tacos on the bus and going out to lunch afterwards (instead of dinner). c. Fundraisers: i. Baskin Robbins Spirit Night will be from 6-9pm on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the 1890 Ranch location. 1. We will have 30 minute rotations that we will need 3 volunteers to scoop ice cream for customers. You will only be responsible for scooping ice cream into cones or cups. Employees will do the other specialty orders. 2. This is a community event that does NOT require a flyer or ticket. 3. The team will receive 20% of ALL proceeds during the 3 hours we are there. ii. Silent Auction will be in conjunction with the Baskin Robbins Spirit Night. 1. We will have several baskets available for customers, parents and swimmers to bid on during the hours of 6-9pm. 2. If you have a business that you think would donate an item(s) for a basket please contact Dianne Szabo at [email protected] d. Spirit: i. The Spirit Committee is gearing up for Regionals. We will decorate the bus that swimmers will take to Regionals. We will also make snack bags for the swimmers to eat on the bus ride. 1. $50 is left in the budget for snacks. a. Lenna Crosby will ask parents to donate snacks once we know if the snacks boosters purchased with the $50 is enough. C) Upcoming Events a. Pasta Dinner: i. Natalie Saul will be hosting our last team pasta dinner on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016.

ii. District shirts will be distributed that night. iii. Sign-ups will be sent out in the next few weeks. b. Districts: i. Prelims-Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 at UT ii. Finals-Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at UT 1. Volunteer timers will be needed for both days. c. Regionals: i. February 5-6, 2016 in Shenandoah, TX d. State: i. February 19-20, 2016 at UT e. Special Olympics: i. Swimmers will be asked to volunteer their time during the Special Olympics held at Bible Stadium on Saturday, April 30, 2016. 1. Lenna Crosby will sign-up for an event once volunteer sign-ups open in late March. a. Look for an email from Sign-Up Genius in April. f. Board Elections: i. Elections will be in late April-early May. 1. All positions are open. 2. Nominations will be taken from now till election night. a. Email [email protected] to nominate someone or yourself. ii. If you are considering a position, but would like to understand what it entails, we can do a mentoring program with you. 1. The board member who holds the position now will walk you through what they do and have you go to a few board meetings. D) Coach’s Corner a. Coach Mann talked with members concerning Coach Ramsey: i. Coach Ramsey was not in attendance do to medical issues that have accrued over the past few months. 1. Her accident in November caused a serious concussion that she trying to heal from. ii. Coach Ramsey has a meeting with her doctor tomorrow (Jan. 12, 2016). 1. After the appointment she will meet with Coach Mann, Principal Graham and others as to whether or not she will be cleared to coach the rest of the season or continue to be on medical leave. iii. There are several plans in the works depending on the outcome of her doctor’s appointment. 1. Rouse and LISD are working hard to make sure the swimmers get all the training they need over the next several weeks before heading off to districts. a. Dry land will be tomorrow due to Coach Ramsey’s doctor appointment. b. Coach Mann will be at the pool on Wednesday. c. Coach Blanchett (1st Rouse swim coach—coached up until 3 years ago) will help coach the swimmers during Ramsey’s absence. d. Other coach’s will provide support by chaperoning, driving the bus, etc. iv. Coach Mann will work to make sure that boosters receive the support they need to stay on task with events already in the works. b. Questions from the parents: i. Who is coaching the swim team if Coach Ramsey does not return?

1. Swimming coaches from around the LISD will work together to help keep swimmers on track for Districts. ii. Would those who swim for Club be able to go to those morning practices instead? 1. Coach Mann had not considered that idea before. He will look into that possibility and let everyone know. iii. Who deals with the Nitro contract? 1. The AD Lee Bridges works with Nitro on the contracts. a. LISD has been looking for years for other pool options. i. Building a pool has fallen through once already. ii. There aren’t any pools around here that would accommodate our swim team. b. They are aware that the contract with Nitro is not favorable to any LISD swimmer. iv. Who will ensure District entries will be comparable? 1. Several coaches will work together to ensure the best seed times are entered. c. Last thoughts: i. Coach Mann is very aware of how Coach Ramsey’s absence is not convenient. ii. The main objective for all those working on a plan of action is the safety of the swimmers and their ability to be able to train for their upcoming District, Regional and State meets. iii. UPDATE: Coach Ramsey will remain on medical leave through the rest of the swim season. Coach Blanchett will fill-in as head coach. Next Meeting The next general booster meeting will be in late April-early May. Date & Time still TBD.
