SHS Update: December 19, 2017
The 1st semester has drawn to a close, regardless of how hard we tried to stop it from being so. Now that Christmas is upon us we are reminded it’s once again time to reflect on the singing of our children. No I am not talking about in the back seat of the car when they think we can’t hear them. I am talking about their accomplishments that all can hear. The following list highlights some of the major accomplishments of our children over the last 5 months. The list is not all inclusive and should not be treated as such. Please take no personal exception if your child’s activity is left off. The point is to show how successful your school is and how important it is that we pass these successes on to future Panthers. The school district’s APR score rose to 92.5% for the year. Current enrollment numbers show 77% (101 out of 131) of students enrolled are involved in at least one extracurricular activity. 65% (51 out of 79) Juniors and Seniors are enrolled in College and Career Ready courses. The number of overall classes receiving a passing grade is 98.2%. Our fall sports were able to bring home a 2 district championships. Many athletes and performers were recognized with All-State Honors. Our Fine Arts department has sustained continued success through several wonderful performances. Our student activities are helping students follow their passions in many unique and exciting ways.

These successes are not typical in all schools and should be a testament to the foundation that has been laid by generations of former Panthers. We are a reflection of the community and as you can see from these highlights, the future looks very bright for our children. On behalf of the Salisbury district, I would like to wish our entire Salisbury family a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to an exciting 2nd semester. Shout Outs A shout out goes to all parents and guardians who helped motivate our students to do their best on their finals this week. Your support is greatly appreciated. A shout out goes to the FFA and STUCO for challenging students to bring in donations of food for a good cause. It was awesome seeing students helping our local community. Thank you goes to all students who helped decorate for the Winter Formal. Students always need a good reason to dress up and those students who attended the dance had fun. A shout goes to all of the members of the high school and junior high band and choir. Your performances at the winter concert sounded amazing. A thank you goes to all those who attended the annual NHS Chili Supper last night. Your donations were all appreciated and the money will go to a very worthy cause. Website Upgrades A test was sent out via push notifications to measure the effectiveness of the system in case of emergency. If you did not receive this test, download the school app or notify the main office and we can add your name to the notifications list. Thank You. A monthly calendar was also added to the school website under the menu tab, unfortunately, the monthly calendar cannot be accessed on the school app. November Students of the Month The Students of the Month for November have been recognized for their abilities to show Caring. We would like to congratulate the following students: Ali King, Leah Hinkle, Katie Thomas, Trevor Lambert, Gwen Wilkey, and Garrett Hinkle for the example they have set for their fellow classmates. Daily Bulletin and Weekly Update Information These weekly updates can now be found on the website under the “High School” tab. The main office will also be posting the school daily bulletins in the “Live Feed” section of the website. This is in an effort to increase the quality of communication between the school and all of our school family. Online Bullying Form On the school website under the “For Student” and “For Parents” tabs you will find a Bullying Report Form. This form contains the school bullying policy, a current definition of bullying and two options for submitting a complaint. The first option is an online form that will go directly to the administrator responsible for handling the issue. The second option is a

printable form that can be mailed to the school. It is unfortunate that we need such forms in our school but we are committed to handling all bullying incidents in a timely fashion. Thank you for those who have already used the form. Canned Food Drive The JH STUCO and FFA were able to collect 557 cans of food to donate to local families in need this holiday season. It is simply amazing what students can accomplish when the build each other up for a good cause. Lost and Found We all know how forgetful our children can be especially right after gym. The lost and found area is overflowing and will be purged after the holidays. The clothes will be sorted and then donated to the sheltered workshop if unclaimed by Friday Jan 6th. Remind your child or children to check the lost and found area if they are missing some clothes.
