Saturday, October 22nd vs. Everett Silvertips GOALS GALORE: With a 9-3 victory against the Saskatoon Blades and a 9-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos, the Royals set a new franchise record for most total goals scored in back-to-back contests with 18. The previous record of 16 total goals scored was set during the 2015-16 season when Victoria recorded an 8-2 win against the Medicine Hat Tigers on January 20th and an 8-0 victory against the Vancouver Giants on January 23rd. FIRST PERIOD FLURRIES: For the second time this week, the Royals tied the franchise record for most goals scored in a period with five markers. Victoria has opened their last two contests against the Saskatoon Blades and Swift Current Broncos with five goals in the opening period to tie the record. This feat has been accomplished on six other occasions, four times as the Chilliwack Bruins and two as the Royals. HEAD-TO-HEAD MATCH-UP: Entering tonight’s contest against the Everett Silvertips, the Royals have won the last five contests between the two clubs dating back to March 20, 2015. During those five games, Victoria has outscored Everett 21-10 and have killed off 15/16=93.8% penalties during that span. Since they have relocated to Vancouver Island, the Victoria Royals have held a mark of 11-8-0-1 against the Silvertips. POWERPLAY PICASSOS: In last night’s contest, Victoria set a franchise mark and tied a Royals’ record while on the powerplay. The club went 4/8=50.0% on the man-advantage and set the franchise mark for most consecutive games with three or more goals at three. In those three contests Victoria has gone 10/23=43.5%. The Royals also tied the record for the most powerplay goals scored in a game since the team moved to Vancouver Island. ROOKIE MILESTONES: The Royals had two rookies score their first goals in the Western Hockey League on Friday night. Forward Erik Florchuk scored his first career WHL marker in the first period, while defenceman Mitchell Prowse tallied the first of his career in the second frame. Both players were selected in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. Florchuk was drafted in the first round, 13th overall, while Prowse was selected in the second round, 35th overall. STREAKING SKATERS: The Royals currently have six players on point streaks. Dante Hannoun is riding the club’s longest current streak at eight games, and has recorded 10 points (4g-6a) over that span. Matthew Phillips and Jack Walker each are on six game streaks of their own where they have collected 13 points (6g7a) and eight points (4g-4a) respectively. Regan Nagy (4g-3a), Tyler Soy (1g-5a), and Scott Walford (1g-2a) are all on three-game point streaks. CALGARY CONNECTION: Royals’ forward Matthew Phillips will be facing fellow Calgary Flames’ prospect, forward Eetu Tuulola of the Everett Silvertips tonight. Both players were selected ten picks apart from each other in the sixth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Phillips who was selected 166th, whereas Tuulola was drafted 156th overall.
