SGS Canada is currently seeking a Senior Materials Engineer / Engineering Technologist to join our Edmonton, AB. The Senior Materials Engineer / Engineering Technologist will be responsible for performing various types of technical tests and analysis to help our customers achieve excellence in materials processing and welding through collaboration and technical knowledge.
A day in the life of an SGS Canada Senior Materials Engineer / Engineering Technologist: Interact with customers and SGS Engineers / Technologists to determine job requirements, specify tests, develop test methods and complete work in a technically correct, timely and safe manner. Maintain Laboratory and personal work area in a clean and professional manner. Assist in the training of new employees in the laboratory. Work within the rules of the ISO 17025 quality program.
Write work orders and interact with customers and co-workers to establish and maintain testing schedules and delivery dates. Provide assistance to co-workers with the daily testing, if requested. In collaboration with the Quality Manager, develop, write and maintain testing procedures. Maintain test equipment and conduct scheduled maintenance and calibrations (if applicable) on test equipment. Review and take responsibility for the technical results by signing laboratory test reports, (Certification with a professional organization is required P.Eng, R.P.T., R.E.T., or C.E.T.). Work with customers and co-workers to improve work processes and resolve technical issues. Follows all company health, safety and environmental policies. Follows all Quality system protocols and reports any discrepancies to the Supervisor. May be assigned to oversee and coordinate testing of special projects as needed.
We are looking for someone with the following Skills, Experiences and Qualifications: Must be legally eligible to work for any employer in Canada without sponsorship. Post Secondary education (Degree and/or Diploma) in Materials Engineering Technology or related program. 5 years of experience in a Materials Engineering Laboratory setting. Prior experience in a supervisory position is considered an asset. Must meet one of the following criteria for certification: Be registered with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APPEGA) as a P.Eng. Be registered with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) CET Experience working within ISO 9001 or 17025 quality programs Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook). Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment. Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition. Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail. Works well under pressure. Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time. Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time. Good hand / eye coordination when handling samples & various equipment. Must use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job. When in difficulty refer problems to his/her Manager for resolution. Very good level of creativity required in solving routine problems. Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
