Current Events January 8-9, 2016: Youth Scholar-in-Residence weekend. We are excited to welcome Rav Binny Freedman of Yeshivat Orayta, who will join us for our next Elana Reitberger Memorial Youth Scholar-in Residence Shabbat. Events will include Friday night dinner and shiur for everyone of youth minyan age (6th-12th grade), an oneg for high schoolers following the dinner, shiur at youth minyan, and seudah shlishit. There is no charge for the dinner, but we are asking everyone to sign up by contacting Ariella Wolf, at [email protected].

Save the Date January 9, 6:30 pm: Parent-Child Learning, led by Menachem Porat, the Torah Mitzion Kollel, and the Bnot Sherut. January 15 - 16: Rabbi Hayyim Angel will be Scholar in Residence. Rabbi Hayyim Angel is the National Scholar of the Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals (jewishideas.org) and a professor at YU. Generously sponsored by Michelle and Jonathan Schneck. January 22: Yoetzet Halacha Bracha Rutner will join us for Shabbat. She will give a talk for women only on Friday night at 8:30 pm at the home of Shanna Winters, 714 Hermleigh Road. Her topic will be “Intimacy in Marriage; Part 2 -Questions from the community”. She will be joined by by Esti Taragin, a physical therapist specializing in women's health. All questions will remain anonymous January 30: JDS is celebrating its 50th anniversary in all the greater Washington communities. The celebration weekend at KMS will be Shabbat Yitro with a community dinner Friday night and a celebratory Kiddush on Shabbat morning. KMS in the News The New York Jewish Week Recently published and article about our "quick turn-around" tzedakah campaign to provide R&R for Israel's Border Patrol. Working together, the three congregations (KMS, Temple Sholom of West Essex in Cedar Grove, NJ and the Jewish Center of the Hamptons in East Hampton, NY) raised just over $16,000 to meet the current needs of the Border Patrol who are on the front-lines protecting Israel's residents. KMS Is Seeking a Youth Director: As our youth population continues to expand, KMS is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to serve on our staff as a part-time Youth Director. The Youth Director will be responsible for developing, planning, and managing our youth programming, including supervising the Youth Minyan; Shabbat and Yom Tov children’s groups, including training and supervision of group leaders; oversight of Bnei Akiva activities; and coordinating special educational, chesed, and social programs throughout the year. Hours will vary from month to month, and salary will be commensurate with experience. Opportunities to Get Involved and Help The KMS Tzedaka Fund helps people in need in the greater Kemp Mill Community.Donations to the Tzedaka Fund would help us meet these requests. Please give generously to the KMS Tzedaka Fund by sending your tax-deductible donation to the KMS office. Checks should be made payable to the KMS Tzedaka Fund. If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact Karen and Jeff Wasserstein([email protected], [email protected]) Yad Yehuda (formerly Yehuda Mond Foundation) provides assistance to more than 200 individuals in the region through a Tomchei Shabbos program and assists several dozen more families through the Capital Kosher Pantry.
