Shire Oak Academy Turning potential into excellence Outside the classroom—enrichment activities at Shire Oak Academy Ofsted’s view of the enrichment provision at our academy
Students readily take the many opportunities for leadership roles and there is a high take up of the wide range of additional clubs, sports and community activities that are a feature of the outstanding curriculum. Students are very polite and courteous to visitors and show consideration for others. They raise considerable charitable funds and show initiative in many other ways; for example, as buddies to other students, and through the influential academy council. Students’ outstanding involvement in the community is firmly rooted in the academy’s ethos and values. The Shire Oak Award, which many students undertake, recognises their achievement in leadership skills and community involvement. Large numbers of students enjoy the extensive additional activities and memorable experiences provided. Extra curricular provision At Shire Oak we believe in the all round education of our students and therefore we offer many after academy activities and visit opportunities. The academy offers students the opportunity of participating in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Key Stage 4 and in the Sixth Form. The Shire Oak Award is completed at bronze level in Key Stage 3, silver in Key Stage 4 and gold in Sixth Form. We are active, staunch supporters of the Children’s University. Several visits, both at home and abroad, are arranged annually. The academy also has an excellent reputation for sporting achievement and there is a regular fixture list for academy teams throughout the year. Outdoor education activities are also programmed.
