Soldier Creek Elementary Title I Parent Involvement Policy Soldier Creek Elementary School’s mission statement includes “We involve parents and our community in the classroom”. Therefore the Soldier Creek Title I program wants to enhance a partnership with parents to improve education for children by implementing the following policy for the school year 2016-17.
Parental involvement activities in Soldier Creek’s classrooms will be ongoing and responsive to the differing needs of families and parents. Some activities include: school PTA meetings, Parent/School compact, and school functions both during and after school.
The Title I committee will meet at least twice a year to revise the current Title I plan. The Title I committee has at least one parent representative.
Parents will be provided with timely information about the Title I program through a variety of methods, some of which may include written communication sent home with students, meetings or conferences with parents, and telephone conversations.
There will be a public meeting at Soldier Creek in early fall for parents. The purpose and activities of the Title I program will be presented to persons attending the meeting. A copy of the agenda, attendance records, and dissemination notices will be filed in the Title I office at the Administration Building.
Children are selected to participate in the Title I program based on the STAR Enterprise Early Literacy and STAR Enterprise Reading screenings. Parents will be informed if their child has been selected. Parents will also be informed of the name of the Title I Instructional Coach, the school telephone number, and the hours when the Instructional Coach can be reached.
The Title I Instructional Coach will be available for scheduled conferences twice each year during the district’s Parent-Teacher Conference Days. Other conferences will be arranged as requested by either parents or teachers.
Parents will be encouraged to visit and observe Title I activities. Also, the Title I Instructional Coach will send home learning ideas to the parents in a printed form. Parents may pick and choose what might be helpful to their child from these suggestions.
A parent, teacher, and student compact will be used at Soldier Creek. The compact outlines the responsibilities of all parties, so that each child experiences a successful academic year.
Parents will be invited to attend meetings and or conferences with their children’s teachers where they will receive information about Oklahoma academic content standards, and how they can monitor their child’s progress throughout the school year.
Parents will be provided opportunity to extend and reinforce school skills by monitoring daily homework and reading. All students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes every night for enjoyment!
