New year, new pool With the continuous renovations to campus, the Whitten University Center Swimming Pool was next on the upgrade list. The renovation project, which began in July 2015, cost $1.8 million and was complete for a reopening celebration in January 2016. The new pool boasts state-of-the-art improvements that will be enjoyed by university students, the Coral Gables community, and especially the swimming and diving teams, who will now be able to compete in the Olympic Sized pool. “I wish the pool opening hadn’t been delayed so many times, but it looks great and I think everyone on campus will enjoy laying out here as it gets warmer,” said senior pool employee McKenna Murphy.
