WARM-UP: Define the following: helper, servant, slave, minister, humble and deacon. Which of these words best describe who you are at this moment?
WARM-UP: What is the greatest sacrifice someone has made for you? What is the greatest sacrifice you have ever made for someone else? Would those closest to you describe you as humble, sacrificial and helpful?
WORD-TIME: Read Mark 10:35-45 WORD-TIME: Read Mark 10:32-45 1. What does Jesus’ teaching on sacrificial service reveal about his character? What does his teaching reveal about the heart and soul of every living being? Is this type of service realistic? 2. How would you define “greatness” according to Jesus? Is it wrong to desire “greatness”? 3. We know “ransom living” for Jesus meant ultimately the crucifixion. What does “ransom living” mean for you and me? 4. If you believe that Mark 10:43-45 is the benchmark for followers of Christ, how would our lives be different tomorrow? How would a life of service impact those closest to you? 5. 1. The Gospel of Mark portrays Jesus as the Servant of God. In what ways did Jesus serve others and in what ways does He SERVE you? 2. What did James and John really want? What was their BLINDSPOT? What is ours today? 3. What false narratives did the disciples have about the King and the Kingdom of God? What is the true narrative about greatness? 4. What is “baptism” in this context? How does this baptism help us clarify water baptism? 5. What is the actual difference between being a servant or a slave? Is there a difference between volunteering and ransom living? 6. The word “immediately” is used over 40 times in Mark. Being a servant is an urgent matter! What is the correlation between a life of urgency and a life of sacrificial service? 7. James and John were first cousins of Jesus. How does this truth help clarify and challenge us as it relates to loving strangers/outsiders? 8. What is the biggest hurdle in applying this passage in your life tomorrow? What needs to change in your life for you to serve others? 9.
