MRS. HURST’S HAT WORKSHOP with Kirsti Johanson author of Chawton Cottage Collection Join local knitting designer and teacher, Kirsti Johanson for this hat class and get started on your holiday knitting a little early. Mrs. Hurst’s Hat is a fancy hat pattern knitted from the top down and gently shaped with yarnovers and decreases. The size is adjustable as you go and the end product is delightful! Techniques covered in the class include Emily Ocker Cast-on, basic lace work, hat structure and design (for student’s future creative work) stretchy bind off and fiber analysis so students will know what to look for in future knitting construction. Class fee includes pattern, class hand-out and technique quick sheet. Join the “hexie” craze...using English paper piecing. This hand sewn technique makes it the perfect project for summer activities. Tuck it into your pocket book and take it with you to the beach, ball game or to sit on the porch swing. Fabric hexagons are sewn around paper templates and then sewn together by hand. This is a technique class giving you the tools to create your own project.

This class builds on the techniques you learned in Judy’s Quilt Logic class. There will be a trunk show of quilts and ideas, along with a lecture on math and methods for making triangle units. SKILL LEVEL KEY

Learn to construct this delicate star block, perfect for a wallhanging or entire quilt of Feathered Stars. Using the bias strip method you will make small triangles (forming feathers) which will edge each of the eight star points. Pattern required. 1 session Mon. Aug 5 Judy Hasheider

Beginner: Easy projects. Little or no knowledge of quilting or knitting. You must know how to use your sewing machine if one is needed for class. Advanced Beginner: Quilters must know basics of quilting and use of rotary cutter. We recommend Basic Quiltmaking class before taking advanced beginner level. Knitters must know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. Intermediate: Fully comfortable with rotary cutting, basic quiltmaking techniques and piecing using 1/2 and 1/4 triangles. Knitters must be comfortable with more advanced concepts, e.g., gauge changing and stitch patterns.

•Pre-registration is a must! Stop in, send check or call with Visa, MasterCard or Discover card number. •For most classes, there is a supply list and/or special instructions. Please pick one up when registering for a class or send self-addressed stamped envelope when registering by mail. •We offer a 10% discount on all your class supplies and are happy to help in the selection of fabric and supplies needed for classes. •Stitchers Crossing respects copyright laws. If a pattern or book is required for your class, you must have your own copy. •Know how to operate your sewing machine for classes that involve one and be sure it is in good working order before you come to class. •It’s best to have your own equipment (rulers, rotary cutter, etc…) in order to accomplish what is necessary to feel success. •Our quilting workshops are for piecing the top only. •Cancellations must be made at least one week prior to class in order to receive a refund. If we have to cancel a class, you will receive a full refund or credit can be applied to another class or merchandise.

JULY-AUGUST, 2013 FOLK ART WOOL APPLIQUE CLUB with Judy Hasheider Folk Art Wool Applique Club 2013 will feature four new original designs by Judy. A crazy patchwork pillow will be the first project presented in February. Wednesday, August 21st 1:00-4:00PM or 6:00-9:00PM Meetings are on the third Wednesday of Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct and Dec. An afternoon group meets from 1:00-4:00PM and an evening group from 6:00-9:00PM.

A special exhibit will recognize Natalie as a teacher and instructor by featuring the work of her former students. As this is not a juried show, the first 25 submissions will be accepted for the exhibit; please, only submit your very best work. The requirements for entry are as follows:

WISCONSIN SHEEP & WOOL FESTIVAL September 6-8 The Midwest’s premier sheep and fiber event, all within an easy drive from Madison, Milwaukee or Chicago, is on the beautiful grounds of the Jefferson Fair Park in Jefferson, WI. There will be over 70 fiber arts classes to choose from along with sheep show, shearing demonstrations, the Crook & Whistle Stock Dog Trial, newborn lambs, fleece shows and sales plus educational clinics and workshops for shepherds of any age and level of experience. Shop in comfort in the Country Store where over 130 vendors from across the nation offer everything from knitting needles to sheep cheese.

Digital submissions (only) will be accepted beginning June 15. Submissions must be representative of Natalie’s technique. Only one (1) submission per student. Send submissions to [email protected]; type “Natalie’s Legacy Show” in the subject line. Attach a photo of your entire quilt or other artwork. Attach a second close-up photo showing the finished edges of your piece. Include your name (as you would like it to appear on a label) and your complete USPS mailing address. Include the title of your piece and the year it was completed. Indicate whether your submission was created in a class or on your own. Optional - include a testimonial regarding Natalie’s place in your personal growth as a quilter/artist. (Student testimonials may be used to advertise the exhibit.)

All submissions will be acknowledged by July 15. All entrants whose work is accepted for the show will receive further instructions at that time.
