No strangers to NCAA postseason tournaments, the SUNYAC membership boasts 32 national championship teams and countless All-Americans. Presently, the conference members compete in 20 sports: nine for men and eleven for women. Last year, the SUNYAC crowned men’s team champions in baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming/diving. The league also awarded women’s championships in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, and volleyball.
Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Students pursue bright futures through programs in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media, and the Arts; and School of Education – as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries. Facilities
Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Michael Holman, a 1996 graduate of Oswego State, enters his fourth year as head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving program. During his first three years, the Lakers have produced 15 All-American performances at the NCAA Division Championships, set 29 team records, and six SUNYAC records. Holman recently guided the men’s and women’s squad to fifth-place finishes at the 2010 SUNYAC Championships. A four-year member of the Oswego State men’s swimming team, Holman held the school record in the 400-yard individual medley during his years as a Laker.
Lakers Shine At NCAA Championships
Before returning to Oswego State, Holman served as the head coach of the Clinton Swim Club and as an assistant coach at Hamilton College. He has 16 total years of coaching experience in which he has trained age group, high school, and collegiate swimmers.
The real story of the season came at nationals as Eric Messina, Shawn Merlin, and Eileen McMahon collected three All-America honors and three Honorable Mention All-America honors. Merlin and Messina combined to Six-time All-American record 51 points for a program-best 18th-place finish. Shawn Merlin McMahon made history by becoming the first female diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships, finishing in 41st in the team standings. As a result, John Moore was named NCAA Division III Men’s Diving National Coach of the Year.
Holman earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Oswego State and received a master’s degree in sport management from Western Illinois University in 1999.
Diving Coach John Moore Diving coach John Moore has been with the Laker program since 1991. During that time, he has led the development of the Oswego divers into one of the top contingents in the SUNYAC. In 2010, Moore was named the NCAA Division III Men’s Diving Coach of the Year as he guided two male divers to three All-America honors and one honorable mention All-America honor. The effort helped the Lakers finish a program-best 18th place at the NCAA Division III Championships. He also helped Eileen McMahon become the first female diver in Oswego State history to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in 2010.

2009-2010 Season in Review
On eight occasions, Moore’s divers have been named Diver of the Year at the SUNYAC Championships. He has trained 14 SUNYAC Champions and seven NCAA All-Americans, including returning six-time All-American Shawn Merlin and four-time All-American Eric Messina. As a competitor, Moore swam for SUNY Morrisville and RIT. He has combined his background in mechanical engineering with more than 25 years of coaching experience to give him a unique ability to train and coach the Laker divers.
It was another successful season for both swimming and diving programs, as both Laker squads finished in fifth place at the SUNYAC Championships and sent a contingent of three divers to the NCAA Championships. Senior Jenny VanEtten was crowned the conference champion in the 200-meter individual medley as she went on to be named to the All-SUNYAC First Team. Sophomore Eric Messina joined VanEtten as an event champion and a First Team All-SUNYAC selection after he won the 3-meter springboard, and was named the SUNYAC Co-Diver of the Meet.
