Recent Results

Bryn Handley, Sr., Southern Illinois (Louisville, Ky)

Senior Bryn Handley won all three of her individual races on Saturday to help the Salukis defeat conference-rivals, Illinois State and Big Ten foe, Illinois. Handley won the 200, 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle. In the 200, she swam the race in 1:52.11. In the 500, she set a new fastest time in the Missouri Valley Conference and the 65th fastest time in the NCAA by swimming the race in 4:54.86. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, she swam the race in 10:13.24. Handley has won all seven races that she has competed in as an individual this season. Handley also competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay, helping her team to a second-place finish with a time of 1:37.65.

MVC Diver of the Week Baobao Ji, So., Southern Illinois (Taiyuan, China)

Sophomore diver, Baobao Ji, continued the successful season that she and the rest of Southern’s divers have had with a win in the one-meter dive and second-place finish in the three-meter dive. Her performance helped Southern knock off Big Ten program, Illinois, and conference foe, Illinois State. Her score of 293.25 in the one-meter not only earned her a victory, but also a new personal best by more than 12 points. It is the second-best score in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and 41st best in the NCAA. She placed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 293.35.

Other Top Performances

Jensen Keck, So., Illinois State Keck won two individual events in Illinois State’s double-dual. She finished first in both the 100- (1:04.49) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.91). She was also a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay team (3:54.31). Kendall Hansen, So., Indiana State Hansen has won the 100 and 200 back in nearly every meet and has improved her times each week in these events. During Indiana State’s thrilling win over Xavier and Olivet-Nazarene on Oct. 14, Hansen set a new school record in the 100 back with a 57.67 and yet again won the 200 back with a 2:04.74. Hansen yet again claimed first place in these events in ISU’s win over RoseHulman and Bellarmine on Oct. 27. Her time of 57.67 was the fourth best in the MVC for this event.

Sydney Zupan, Sr., Missouri State 200 Free, 1st place – 1:52.12; 200 Back, 1st place – 2:02.39; 400 Free Relay, 2nd place – 3:02.74 Zupan finished the week with two individual wins and a second-place effort with the Missouri State relay squad. Zupan claimed her first victory of the night in the 200 free, where she touched the wall first in 1:52.12. She then went on to grab first in the 200 back with a speedy time of 2:02.39 – five seconds faster than the runner-up in the event. Leading of the 400 free relay, Zupan assisted the squad to a second-place finish to close out the meet. After the weekend, Zupan claims the top spot in the Valley in the 100 free and 100 fly, while sitting second in the 200 free, 100 back and 200 back.

Katie Taylor, So., UNI Katie Taylor broke the South Dakota pool record in the 200 backstroke, swimming in at 2:14.87. Taylor edged out Sabrina Sabadeanu of South Dakota in the 100 backstroke, timing in at 1:02.68. Taylor edged out Sabadeanu in the 200 IM, swimming in at 2:20.59. The Panthers team of Taylor, Moriah Ross, Crystal Florman and Molly Lembezeder swam to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, timing in at 1:57.22.

Emily Aument, Fr., Illinois State Aument took fifth place in both diving events in Illinois State’s double-dual victory over Illinois and loss to Southern Illinois Saturday at Horton Pool. Aument finished fifth in both the 1-meter (225.75) and 3-meter (202.90) events. Laura Fulton, Sr., Indiana State Senior diver Laura Fulton has consistently improved each week of competition for the Sycamores. With this being Indiana State’s first season competing in diving, Laura is only one of two divers competing each week for the Sycamores. In ISU’s win over Rose-Hulman and Bellarmine Laura won the three-meter dive competition with a score of 206.90. Ashley Yarbrough, Fr., Missouri State 1-Meter, 1st place – 263.02 points; 3-Meter, 1st place – 267.90 points Claiming both boards once again, freshman diver Ashley Yarbrough has swept the 1- and 3-meter boards for three consecutive meets. Beginning on the 3-meter board, Yarbrough put up an impressive 267.90 points – scoring 56.25 more points than the nearest competitor. Later, she racked up a career-high 263.02 points on the 1-meter board to earn her sixth victory during the month of October. Izzy Bunchek, Fr., UNI (Oneida, WI) Izzy Bunchek nabbed a second-place finish in the 1-meter diving. In the 3-meter diving well, Bunchek took third and fourth place. Bunchek had a dive score of 188.15.
