PROGRAM STATS  We have approx. 45 active volunteer chaplains between the three rosters, and 1 part-time paid staff person  In 2016, we have had 23 call-outs in 6 of the 7 Districts  In 2016 we’ve been called to 10 homicides, 2 suicides, 2 police support calls, 1 fatal accident, 1 house fire with fatality, 1 sudden infant death, 3 persons in distress  Since the program’s beginning chaplains have attended 10 prayer vigils, Law Enforcement Sunday, holiday events in D4, D5, and D7, National Night Out in D7, Adopt-a-Block, Archdioceses Peace Service at All Saints, Coats for Kids & Toys for Tots distribution for The Salvation Army, Feed the Kids summer meal program, Stuff the Squad, monthly FaithBased Initiative and/or Crime & Safety meetings in their districts, and more…

THE PURPOSE

WHAT WE DO

The Salvation Army is committed



to partnering with the Milwaukee Police Department to provide emotional and spiritual care and

support to those that have Prayer for a Summer of Unity and Peace, District 7



A small dedicated group of chaplains who have additional training to be able to provide competent support for MPD officers and their families



This support is anonymous and available for any officer who determines they need emotional and spiritual care following an incident in the field, or other personal issues they may be facing

experienced a traumatic incident. Through our 3 volunteer rosters

COMMUNITY ROSTER 

When volunteers first join our program, they are asked to volunteer 3-6 months on our Community Roster



In this capacity, our volunteers engage in community outreach and work alongside MPD for community-building initiatives



The goal of this ministry is to help build positive relationships and support community members in a pro-active way, before crime hits

of chaplains we seek to build relationships and safe neighborhoods, identify root causes of trauma that shatter lives, and to provide assistance which empowers individuals to make changes in their lives.

The objective of these volunteers is to assist officers with family and friends of crime victims, and neighbors, so that people can receive support and access to important community resources

EMERGENCY ROSTER 



Chaplains on the Emergency Roster have completed training with the Salvation Army and MPD They are called to critical incidents when MPD determines emotional and spiritual care is needed; these incidents could include: homicides, suicides, severe accidents, sudden infant deaths, and persons in distress

Program Requirements Intro to The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (On-line) Spiritual & Psychological First Aid—14 hrs Police Academy Training—32 hours FEMA IS100, IS200 (On-line) Grief Following Trauma—14 hours pass Salvation Army & Milwaukee Police background checks 2 year commitment, valid driver’s license
