The Timely Word

An Epistle from Paul: Stewardship is a Spiritual Issue – Along the theme of the new year, let me use this space to emphasize the Biblical principle of faithful stewardship and how that this is a spiritual issue. Greed is totally contrary to the Christian life. Paul warns Christians to (Colossians 3:5) “…consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.” In short, while the world may be impressed by the size of one’s bank account, God certainly is not. God is concerned with the heart… (1 Samuel 16:7; Jeremiah 17:10; Acts 5:1-11 etc.) and while wealth cannot make people spiritual, it can reveal their spiritual state… (Matthew 6:21). Materialism is NOT about how much you possess, but it IS about your disposition toward it. In other words, God is more concerned about your attitude toward things, not your net worth. Paul told Timothy (1 Timothy 6:17-19) “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.” Note, Timothy was NOT instructed to rebuke or neglect the rich, nor was he instructed to redistribute their wealth so everyone was equal. Rather, he was to instruct them from the Scriptures on how to best use their wealth to glory of God. In other words, stewardship is a spiritual issue, not a political football! A.T. Rogers Family Alan and Doris Rogers had to make another trip to Kentucky this past week. Alan’s older brother A.T. passed from this life. We have had A.T. on our prayer list for several months. In conversations with Alan, A.T. was a faithful servant of the Lord. Because of this, we are assured “to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord.” We lift Alan and his family up in prayer at this time of being separated from A.T. … We rejoice he was a Christian and remind each other that “in Christ” we will see each other again!!!

Continues on Wednesdays PM! We continue on Wednesday nights our in depth study of a Biblical Worldview series entitled The Truth Project. What a great study this has turned out to be. We urge and invite you and yours to come and be a part…!!
