ORDER OF SERVICE

GATHERING Prelude Welcome and Introduction to Advent Candle Litany and Lighting Advent Unison Prayer (by Henri Nouwen)

“Advent marks something momentous: God’s coming into our midst. That coming is not just something that happened in the past. It is a recurring possibility here and now. And thus, Advent is not merely a commemorative event or an anniversary, but a yearly opportunity for us to consider the future, second Advent – the promised coming of God’s kingdom on earth.” ~ excerpt from Watch For The Light O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL (W&C #123)

Lord Jesus, Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas. We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day. We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us. We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom. We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence. We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light. To you we say, "Come Lord Jesus!" Amen. O Come, O Come, Immanuel Hosanna (Praise Is Rising) Prayer of Confession Almighty God

O come, O come, Emmanuel And ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here, Until the Son of God appear. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel! O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer Our spirits by Thine advent here; Disperse the gloomy clouds of night, And death’s dark shadows put to flight. O come, Thou Wisdom from on high, And order all things, far and nigh; To us the path of knowledge show, And cause us in her ways to go.

ALMIGHTY GOD

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM

Paul Baloche/Brenton Brown

(MCracken/Leonard/Jorday)

(W&C - 141)

Praise is rising Eyes are turning to You We turn to You Hope is stirring Hearts are yearning for You We long for You Cause when we see You We find strength to face the day In Your presence All our fears are washed away Washed away

Almighty God, to You all hearts are open Search and know our thoughts and anxious fears Wash us in the fountain of Your mercy Come with Your light, we cannot hide from You

O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by. Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light; The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight.

HOSANNA (PRAISE IS RISING)

Hosanna hosanna You are the God who saves us Worthy of all our praises Hosanna hosanna Come have Your way among us We welcome You here Lord Jesus Hear the sound of Hearts returning to You We turn to You In Your kingdom Broken lives are made new You make us new Cause when we see You We find strength to face the day In Your presence All our fears are washed away Washed away

Almighty God, to You all hearts are open With gratitude we raise our song to You Come and fill the praises of Your people In grace and truth You make us new again CHORUS

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Almighty God, to You all hearts are open We long for more than what this world provides No shallow spring will ever satisfy us But Your river deep floods over everything Almighty God, to You all hearts are open You take away our sickness and our sin Oh Lamb of God, we gather at Your table In bread and wine You have supplied our needs

For Christ is born of Mary, And gathered all above, While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wond’ring love. O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy birth! And praises sing to God the King, And peace to men on earth. How silently, how silently The wondrous gift is giv’n! So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His heav’n. No ear may hear His coming, But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive Him still The dear Christ enters in. O holy Child of Bethlehem! Descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin, and enter in;’ Be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel.
