Construction 1.

Draw a diagonal line on the backside of each Piece C.

Combine 2 of Piece A with 1 of Piece B to create Unit ABA. Trim excess Piece B from Unit ABA so it measures 6 ½” x 6 ½”. Make 32 of Unit ABA.

Align 2 of Piece C (right sides together) on Unit ABA as shown below and stitch on the drawn line. Trim ¼” beyond the stitching line and press to complete Block 1. Repeat to make 32 of Block 1. Block 1 should measure 6 ½” x 6 ½”.

As shown below, combine 1 of Piece D, 1 of Piece E, 1 of Piece F and 1 of Piece G to make Shield 1. Align vertical and horizontal marks of Inner Shield Template with seams of Shield 1 and trace. Note: If turning edges under for appliqué, add ¼” seam allowance to template. Cut out Shield 1. Make 2 of Shield 1.

As shown below, combine 1 of Piece E, 1 of Piece D, 1 of Piece G and 1 of Piece F to make Shield 2. Align vertical and horizontal marks of Inner Shield Template with seams of Shield 2 and trace. Note: If turning edges under for appliqué, add ¼” seam allowance to template. Cut out Shield 2. Make 2 of Shield 2.

Trace Shield Outline Template onto Piece L and cut out Shield Outline. Note: If turning edges under for appliqué, add ¼” seam allowance to template. Make 4 of Shield Outline.

Using your preferred method of appliqué and following the diagram below for placement, appliqué 2 of Shield Outline, 1 of Shield 1 and 1 of Shield 2 onto 1 of Piece H to make Block 2. Make 1 of Block 2. Block 2 should measure 13” x 20”. 2 ½” Shield 1 Shield Outline

Combine 8 of Block 1 as shown below to make Border 2. Make 4 of Border 2. Border 2 should measure 6 ½” x 48 ½”.

orientation, add Border 2 to each side of Quilt Center and then add Border 2 on top and bottom.

To complete Quilt Top, add Border 3, Sides, then Border 3, Top & Bottom. Add Border 4, Sides, then Border 4, Top & Bottom. Add Border 5, Sides, then Border 5, Top & Bottom. Finally, add Border 6, Sides, then Border 6, Top & Bottom. The Quilt Top should measure 70 ½” x 82 ½”.

Finishing 16. Cut backing into 2 pieces and combine selvedge edges. 17. Layer Quilt Top, batting and backing. Baste and quilt. 18. Sew the Binding strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams. Fold this long strip in half

lengthwise with wrong sides together. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt with raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back and hand stitch in place. 19. Make sure to add a label to your quilt.
