Dear Region 60 Families:

As I complete the third year of my second term Regional Commissioner as your Regional Commissioner (RC), I find myself Rolando Morales reflecting on why I volunteer and put in countless hours for AYSO and Region 60. Let me be clear, this is not an easy position to hold, in fact, it can be a thankless one at times; However, I would do it again in a heartbeat. My six years as the RC has given me life lessons, invaluable work experience, and thousands of smiling faces. People are always asking me (on volunteering), “How do you do it?” or “Don’t you get burnt out?” I answer the first one easily, I do it with the support of my family and the hard work of the dozens of other board members, both who give me the motivation to be the best I can be for the Region. I volunteer because I want to ensure our region provides the best possible programs for our players and families, including my children. I also enjoy coaching and officiating for our region, both opportunities which allow me to be in the action. Do I get burnt out? Yes, but briefly. Towards the end of the regular season, I ask myself if I want to continue volunteering as much as I do. This is when I am gifted with a very positive or kind word from a parent(s) on how much they loved being part of this region and how much fun their child had playing soccer, or I receive a powerful email on how impactful soccer has been for their child. These simple words give me the renewed energy to continue moving forward.

OCTOBER 15, 2016

Like many of you, I was thrust into being a volunteer for my child’s team, but once I saw what AYSO was about and the wonderful experiences it brought to my family, I wanted to give more of my time. Volunteering is not for everyone, nor is being a Regional Commissioner; however, don’t let fear stop you from giving it a try, we have an awesome support system in Region 60! Play On!

Alhambra City Council Commends Region 60 The Alhambra City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Alhambra, commended AYSO Region 60 for their indispensable assistance in the city’s inaugural Dine Alhambra event held last August.
