Two Good Farms CSA July 26, 2016 Welcome to the seventh week of the Two Good Farms CSA! This week has been just as busy as the others, and with Mother Nature’s typical unreliability, we’ve stayed as busy as our sunflower’s bees (pictured) keeping up with her interventions. This weekend’s rain got our tomatoes threatened by a late blight, and the storm’s winds knocked over our pepper plants. Luckily enough, the peppers were able to recover and our tomatoes have been treated to prevent the blight from taking hold. As an organic farm, preventing the spread of blight presents us with a unique problem. There are a number of chemical fungicides that could be used to fight blight, but none of them align with organic principles or practice. Our solution works only preventatively, as once plants are infected with blight it is too late to save them. We spray a copper-based product to prevent the spread of blight, which works both organically and effectively.

Our garlic has reached its peak, and we’re excited to include it in this week’s share. One of the cloves was weighed at market at a half a pound! It seems like our kohlrabi aren’t the only plants that have really hit their stride this season. As always, best wishes, The Two Good Farms Team
