Union hosts Cornell on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. • Friday’s game will be televised locally on Time Warner Sports Channel 3 and nationally on the NHL Network. Matt Dubrey, who usually handles the radio call, will provide play-by-play with Dan Fridgen on color. • Brian Unger and Adam Ullman will give the radio call, which can be heard on WRUC FM 89.7 or through the internet at TEAMLINE.cc. • Dubrey and Unger resume their usual rolls for Saturday’s game, which can be heard on WRUC and on TEAMLINE.cc • Live stats for both contests can be accessed on UnionAthletics.com or by visiting ecachockey.com TAMING THE TIGERS AND BOBCATS Entering last weekend, Union carried a 2-4-0 conference record. At weeks end, the Dutchmen pulled to 4-4-0 with victories at No. 5/7 Princeton (3-2 on Friday) and at rv/rv Quinnipiac (4-2 on Saturday). • Junior forward Jason Walters registered a team-best five points behind two goals and three assists. • Sophomore forward Adam Presizniuk registered a goal and three assists during the two games, including three points at Quinnipiac. • Sophomore goaltender Corey Milan continued his stellar play with 29 saves in each victory. For the weekend, Milan posted a 2.00 goals-against average with a .935 save percentage.
CAFFARO SETS RECORD A scoring correction in Union’s 4-2 victory at rv/rv Quinnipiac makes senior defenseman Lane Caffaro the Dutchmen’s all-time leading defensive scorer. • The assist gave Caffaro his 69th career point, passing Reid Simonton (1992-96), who had 68. • For his career, Caffaro has produced 20 goals and 49 assists. His season he has registered 12 points with five goals and seven assists. MAKE HOBEY PROUD Senior defenseman Lane Caffaro and sophomore forward Adam Presizniuk have been placed on this season’s Hobey Baker Candidate list. • Caffaro, a co-captain, has played in all 20 games and has posted 12 points, including seven assists. • Presizniuk has also played in ever game and leads the team with 21 points, including nine goals and 12 assists. • Fans can participate in the selection by voting online through March 9 at www.hobeybaker.com. WALTERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK ECAC Hockey and the New England Hockey Journal announced Monday that junior forward Jason Walters is the conference’s Player of the Week after leading Union to a pair of wins at Princeton and Quinnipiac with a team-high five points, including two goals and three assists. • Against the Tigers, he registered two assists and followed with his third multi-goal and seventh multi-point game of his career with a pair of goals and an assist at Quinnipiac • For the weekend he unloaded five shots for a .400 shot percentage and was a plus 3.

Those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote that will include coaches, media and fans. The award winner will be announced and recognized at the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four in Washington, D.C. • Cook is an economic major with a math minor. He was selected to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic squad his sophomore and junior seasons and has made Dean’s List every term. • Cook is very involved in the Schenectady, NY community where he volunteers with a SAIL program at local area grade schools. He has also participated in Habitat for Humanity and has volunteered his time at the YMCA soup kitchen. An instructor in the Minerva Games for local area grade schoolers, Cook also coached a skills clinic for local youth hockey players. ELEVEN WINS The Dutchmen registered their 11th victory of the season, marking the 11th time in program history the team has hit the plateau. • It took Union 20 games to get to 11 wins -the second fastest in school history. • During the 1996-97 season, Union got there in 19 games. ANOTHER RANKED OPPONENT Friday’s contest against No. 5 Cornell will be Union’s third against a top-five opponent in five outings. It will also be the fifth against a ranked

team this season. Union is 2-2-0 in those games, including 1-1-0 in its last two. • The Dutchmen knocked off No. 18 Harvard on Nov. 8 (3-1) and defeated No. 5 Princeton on Jan. 9 (3-2). SPEAKING OF RANKINGS The Dutchmen received five votes in the most recent USCHO.com/CBS Sports Division I Poll. • It marks the fifth time this season, Union has received consideration for a national ranking. • They have received nine, five, three and one vote during the season and hit their highest amount during the Nov. 3 poll with 20 votes. TOP 25 Entering the weekend Union is 25th in the country with 3.00 goals-per-game, notching 60 in 20 games. The team was second in ECAC Hockey for goals scored and third for assists with 92. • This season Union has had four goals or more in a period three times. • Union is second only to Princeton (657) with 618 shots on goal. • They have also registered 15 or more shots in a period nine times. NEW YEAR GOOD TO MILAN Since returning from Christmas break, sophomore goaltender Corey Milan has posted a 3-1-0 record with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage. • Milan is currently on a three-game winning streak, which the second longest of his career. Last season he produced five wins during Union’s school record seven-game winning streak. • This season he has registered a 2.64 goalsagainst average and a .910 save percentage.
WALTERS RETURNS STRONG After missing four games with an injury, junior forward Jason Walters has made an impressive comeback. • In the four games since his return, he has produced a team-high six points with three goals and three assists. • He is currently on a three game scoring streak and has produced two multi-point games during that span. PRESZNIUK CONTINUES SCORING Sophomore forward Adam Presizniuk leads the Dutchmen with a 18 points, 12 assists and a career-high nine goals. • This season he is on pace to finish the regular season with 15 goals, 20 assists and 35 points. • Presizniuk is tied for fourth in the league for points and goals and is tied for fifth for assists. • Nationally, he is tied for 38th with 1.05 points per game and tied for 45th with 0.45 goals per game -- as of Wednesday. SECOND IS THE BEST Sophomore forward Stéphane Boileau has produced eight points in the last eight outings with three goals and five assists. He has only gone scoreless once during that span. • For the season, Boileau is second on the team with 17 points, seven goals and 10 assists. • He was tied for 92nd in the country with 0.85 points per game. • He is tied for seventh in the conference for
DEFENSE IS OFFENSE Senior defensemen Lane Caffaro and Brendan Milnamow are contributing at the other end of the ice with 12 and 11 points, respectively. • Caffaro is tied for the top spot in ECAC Hockey for points among defenseman, while Milnamow is tied for third. • Milnamow, who is tied for second on the team for goals, leads the conference defenseman with seven and Caffaro is fourth with five. • The two are the top defensive scoring tandem in the conference. FACE OFF SPECIALTY Sophomore Stéphane Boileau, junior Jason Walters and sophomore Adam Presizniuk lead the Dutchmen in face off winning percentage among players who have taken five or more draws. • Boileau has won 122-of-187 for a .652 percentage, while Walters has won 93-of170 for a .547 mark. • Presizniuk has won 34-of-54 for a .531 percentage. • Sophomore John Simpson has totaled a team-high 130 wins, while freshman Kelly Zajac has won back 121. POWER PLAY IS KEY During Union’s 11 wins this season, the powerplay has produced on 12-of-59 opportunities for a .203 conversion rate. • The Dutchmen are 6-2-0 when scoring on the man advantage. • Senior defenseman Brendan Milnamow is tied with sophomore forward Adam Presizniuk with three power-play goals. • Milnamow has produced a team-best six points with the man advantage, while junior defenseman Mike Schreiber has tallied a team-best five assists. SCHOOL SCORING LIST Senior forward Matt Cook and junior forward Jason Walters are also moving their way up the top-25 Union scorers list. • Cook currently sits at 18th with 63 career points, including 29 goals and 34 assists. • Walters is at 21 with 61 career points, including 19 goals and 42 assists. OWNING THE SECOND Entering the weekend, Union’s strongest period so far has been the second. The team is outscoring its opponents 25-15. • Union has totaled 60 total goals this season, meaning just under half have come in the second frame. • The team has scored two or more goals in a second period six times.

FIRST LINE PRODUCTION For the majority of the season, junior Jason Walters has centered sophomores Adam Presizniuk and Stéphane Boileau as Union’s top line. Combined the trio has produced 22 goals, 30 assists and 52 points. • They are one, two and three on the team for all three categories. • Combined they have produced 34 percent of the team’s scoring. • Union is 11-4 when at least one of the three produces a point. • The Dutchmen are 10-3 when Presizniuk has a point, 7-2 when he scores a goal and 7-1 when he has an assist. • When Boileau scores a goal, Union is 6-0. • When Walters registers a point, the team is 8-2 and 6-0 when he has an assist.

LEAMAN RETURNS Head Coach Nate Leaman returns to guide the Dutchmen after serving as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Tournament. • The Americans played eight games, including two exhibition contests, and posted a 6-2 record and finished fifth. • Competition finished with a 3-2 overtime win against the Czech Republic. HONOR ROLL THIS SEASON Several Union student-athletes have been selected to the ECAC Hockey Weekly Honor Roll throughout the season. • Junior forward Jason Walters was named to the Honor Roll for his two goal performance during weekend games against Quinnipiac and Princeton. • Redshirt freshman forward Luke Cain registered a goal and an assist in Union’s 3-1 victory against Harvard, earning him a spot on the list. • For their efforts in Union’s 3-2 victory against UConn, sophomore forward Stéphane Boileau, sophomore goaltender Corey Milan and freshman Kelly Zajac were selected. • Zajac made his first appearances on the Honor Roll after producing the first two points of his career during at the 2008 Governor’s Cup. DON’T FORGET YANOVITCH Freshman forward Brian Yanovitch has not made a weekly honor roll yet, but he was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for his performance against the U.S. U-18 Team. • Yanovitch scored twice in his first unofficial collegiate appearance against the U.S. U-18 Team. • The Mansfield, MA, native scored on his very first shift on his very first shot. He found the puck at the right face-off circle and snipped a shot past the glove US goaltender Adam Murray at 1:37. • Yanovitch’s second goal down low to tie the game at 4-4 with just over two minutes remaining in the second. CALL ME CHAMPION Third-period heroics by junior forward Mario Valery-Trabucco with 6:09 lifted the Dutchmen to a 4-2 victory against Colgate in the championship game of the 2008 Governor’s Cup on Oct. 25. • The title was the first for Union since 1993 and its first on U.S. soil. • The game-winner came after Colgate turned the puck over just outside of its defensive end and sophomore forward John Simpson sent a touch pass ahead to a streaking Valery-Trabucco. After receiving the pass, he fought off a Red Raider defender and sent a snap shot into the back of the net.

SIMPSON HONORED BY JOURNAL Sophomore forward John Simpson was named New England Hockey Journal Player of the Week (for the weekend ending on Oct. 25) for his performance at the Governor’s Cup. • In Union’s win against Colgate he assisted on the team’s first goal and the third, which was the game-winner. • At the Mutual of Omaha Stampede, Simpson scored three goals in two games. • Simpson scored a career-high two goals against the Bobcats and then scored his first career shorthanded goal against the Mavericks.
• This preseason, Union also received three votes in the USCHO.com poll. CAFFARO’S HONORED Senior defensemen Lane Caffaro became the first Dutchmen hockey student-athlete to be selected to the All-ECACH Preseason Team. • Caffaro earned the honor in both the coaches and media polls. • He played in 33 games last season and posted three goals and 13 assists and was an All-ECACH Third Team Selection. • Caffaro is 20th on Union’s all-time Division I scoring list with 61 points.
PRESEASON RANKINGS The preseason rankings had the Dutchmen selected to finish fifth in ECACH by the coaches and sixth by the media. • These two rankings are the highest Union has ever been selected. • The Dutchmen were picked to finish 12th by both polls in 2007-08, but responded with a fourth-place finish and the team’s first ever first-round bye in the ECACH postseason. SCOUTING CORNELL The Big Red are one of the top defensive teams in the country and are led by junior goaltender Ben Scrivens, who leads the country in both goals-against average (1.27) and save-percentage (.952). In conference games, he has posted a 0.74 goals-against average and a .972 save percentage. • Cornell owns the nations best winning percentage (.833) with a 11-1-3 record. The team is currently on a eight game unbeaten streak, winning seven of eight. • Offensively, junior forward Colin Greening leads the team with 13 points behind seven goals and six assists. • Sophomore forward Riley Nash is the only other 10-plus point scorer with 11. He has potted five goals to go along with his six assists. THE SERIES The two teams first met on Feb. 22, 1928 and Cornell skated away with a 7-4 victory, propelling them to 6-0-1 record against Union in the first seven outings. • On Feb. 22, 1992 the Dutchmen earned their first victory, 6-4, against the Ithaca team. • Cornell owns the all-time series lead with a 25-12-5 mark and a 20-12-4 Division I record. The Dutchmen’s last victory came in the form of a 3-2 win at Cornell last season on Feb. 15. • In the last five outings, including two playoff games a season ago, Union is 2-2-1. A late thirdperiod power-play tally by Brendon Nash lifted Cornell to the win during the first game and Evan Barlow scored a power-play goal in the third of the second game. • Goaltender Corey Milan started game two and posted 18 saves. • The Dutchmen got production from Torren Delforte and Michael Beynon in game one and from Stéphane Boileau and Lane Caffaro during game two.
SCOUTING COLGATE The Red Raiders are coming off a series split against Lake Superior State last Thursday and Friday. After taking the first contest 5-4 in overtime, Colgate dropped the second 6-1. • This season, junior forward David McIntyre, a Dallas Stars prospect, leads the team and is tied for third in the conference with 21 points. He has produced eight goals and a team-best 13 assists. • Freshman forward Austin Smith, another Dallas prospect, is second on the team with 20 points, which places him in the top five for scoring in ECAC Hockey. He has tallied a team-high 11 goals. • Junior Charles Long has seen the majority of the action between the pipes, posting a 5-5-4 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. Despite posting a 1.95 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage he is 1-3-3 in conference games. THE SERIES Saturday’s meeting will be the 48th all-time between the two schools and Colgate leads 34-13-1 and 24-10-1 in Division I action. The programs first squared off on Feb. 15, 1929 and Union claimed a 3-1 win. • Between Feb. 21, 2003 and Feb. 10, 2007, the Red Raiders produced a series-long nine-game winning streak. However, in the last three outings, Union has gone 2-1-0, including a 4-2 victory at the 2008 Governor’s Cup earlier this season.
