USF Sarasota-Manatee Student Government Association Legislative Branch 10/11/16

Legislative Branch Members in Attendance: Ricardo Centeno, Jeanie Ziven, Corinne Tucker, Jaime Hernandez, Sami Araboghli, Jay Dwyer, Anthony Alibro, Edward Becht, Andre Obradovich, Barry Callahan Student Services Members in Attendance: Darren Gambrell Guest(s): N/A Call to Order: Ricardo calls the meeting to order at 8:38 AM. Amendments to the Meeting Agenda: o Jay motions to approve the agenda o Jeanie seconds o The motion passes and the agenda for October 11th 2016 has been approved Amendments to the Meeting Minutes: o Jay motions to approve the minutes o Corinne seconds o The minutes from September 27th, 2016 have been approved Senate President Updates: o ASGA o Files and PowerPoints from the conference are on record for Senators who need it. The files will soon be transferred to the O-drive o Attorney General o Andrew has nominated an individual who will hopefully come before the Senate next meeting. o Check Out Program o Signs and notices have been placed to hopefully curb the noise levels  Jay thinks that the signs have been effective thus far o Ricardo encourages Senators to sign up for shifts  Jay asks if he can take multiple shifts in a row if no one has signed up for them  Ricardo says yes he can Old Business: o N/A New Business: o Midterm Reflection o What have we done so far?  Sami says that at ASGA, he noticed that our school’s SG operates very smoothly and efficiently. He thinks that we should be proud, while at the same time not complacent with our position.  Ricardo agrees, and he mentions that going to ASGA over the years has helped shape the way that SG operates  Jay says he was initially concerned that SG was going to be a social group instead of a job, but now he can say that he really likes working in SG, and that employees hold each other accountable.  Jay compliments the work that committees have done thus far

Jaime says that committees have been working hard and are focused on their goals.  Corinne says that her goals in Senate are the goals of the committees  Jeanie compliments JEC  The Senate knocks in agreements How can we improve?  Anthony says communication is always something that can be improved on, especially interbranch communication  Jay says that things are going smooth, and complacency is always an obstacle for organizations, especially ones that are relaxed  Ricardo says he would like to increase SG’s presence with Student Engagement  Darren says that USFSM has not had the level of issues and conflicts that the Tampa campus has had. He is impressed with our ability to work together. Darren also says that Butch from ASGA is willing to come and provide free sessions on any subject of our choice if he’s in the area  Jay reminds Senators to meet with Kathy to get their headshots. He also reminds the Senators that they need to get together for a group photo. What should we do now?  Corinne says that opinions and input for the Lunch ‘n Learn are much appreciated, and the event is on ORG SYNC. o Jeanie thinks Lunch ‘n Learns are a very good idea  Corinne says a PowerPoint will be made and participation from SG would be helpful  Edward says that he thinks branch heads should be at Lunch ‘n Learns o Ricardo agrees  Anthony asks Corinne who she wants at the LiL (Lunch n’ Learns) o She says representatives from each branch and departments, as well as JEC committee  Jay thinks the LiL’s should be once a month or every other month  Edward asks if funding will ever be an issue o Ricardo says that at least two-three LiL’s can be done. If the price becomes too much the Senate can fund raise  *Barry arrives at 9:06 AM  Jay says that the Senate should participate in preventative work, especially when it comes to the checkout system, to make sure that everything runs smoothly  Ricardo agrees, he encourages Senators to sign up every Monday morning to set an example for the other branches  Jay once again reminds Senators to talk to Kathy for headshots and the group photo  Corinne says the LiL is November 30th  Jay thinks that the Senate should consider collaborative cross-branch events to increase cohesiveness  JuSenEx is tomorrow at 4 PM 

Open forum o Ricardo says that he would like to become a little more strict in respect to showing up to meetings on time o Jay says he won’t be here next Semester, so perhaps the Senate won’t have to meet early on Tuesdays anymore o Edward says that at ASGA, many of the suggestions made by the presenters were things that USFSM already does, and he thinks it is important to point out the initiatives our

school participates in o The Senate knocks on the table Corinne wishes Ricardo a Happy Birthday and requests a group selfie o The Senate takes a selfie Ricardo says it’s also Andre’s birthday o Jay tells the Senate to give Andre a big, long hug that lasts longer than 3 seconds
