Wednesday 13th May 2015
Dear Parents / Carers 'Fun Froggy Friday' - Friday 22nd May 2015. Thank you for your kind donations toward MacMillan Cancer Support following the sad death of one of our ex-staff, Mrs Batson, who had worked at the school for 27 years. We have already raised lots of money for MacMillan and following conversations with the family, we would like to hold a non-uniform and fun day at the end of the half term in order to both celebrate the memory of Mrs Batson and also to raise a little more for Macmillan Cancer Support. After the announcement of the sad passing of our loyal Abbey teacher, many families, teachers and children were affected. Therefore, in honour of such a kind hearted, hardworking and loyal colleague, friend and mentor there will be a special day to remember our amazing 'frog mad' teacher; Mrs Annie Batson. We are organising 'Fun Froggy Friday', on Friday 22nd May 2015. This is a day to laugh and remember, with a smile, a woman who has touched the lives, hearts and minds of many. All monies raised will be donated to Macmillan cancer support in remembrance of Annie Batson. This special day is organised as follows:
A school wide non uniform day where all children and staff are asked to wear green. If you can, a silver coin donation will be gratefully collected in the green buckets around the schools.
A cake and coffee morning for parents to attend, organised in partnership with Macmillan and The Friends of Abbey. This ‘drop-in’ coffee morning will be hosted in the infant dining room between 9am and 10am for all of our parents to attend and you are very welcome to come in for a coffee and a cake. Our ‘Friends of Abbey’ group are organising the cakes with kind contributions from our talented, cake making parents. If you would like to donate a cake then please bring it to the infant school office on Thursday 21st May or the morning of Friday 22nd May.
We will launch the day with a special assembly at both schools where the children will be treated to a fun 'Zumba' act. This will put us in the mood for lots of fun. Then, during the afternoon the children will be treated to a specially co-ordinated 'variety show', of mesmerizing acts and entertainment for all to enjoy! Performances from 'Firefly',' Smiiffy' and 'Fused' are planned to bring ultimate fun and variety.
After school there will be a community event which will begin at 3.15pm until 4.30pm, in the infant school playground. This afternoon promises to be a special event with dance performances, mascots, face painters, stilt walkers, fun frog activities, bouncy castles, tombola, raffle and much, much more. Many local businesses have pledged fabulous gifts and prizes for our raffle and tombola, if you would like to also donate a gift then please leave this at the infant office by Wednesday 20th May. Please see the posters around the school advertising the event for more information. Our aim is to raise much needed funds for the charity 'MacMillan', who were very supportive of Mrs Batson and her family, of whom will be in attendance at the fun day event. With this is mind there will be a memory book placed in the reception area of the infant school for anyone who would like to write a memory or perhaps a funny story or how inspirational she was this will then be presented to the family on the day for them to keep and share in our memories with Annie. Look out for our posters and celebrate with us! We look forward to seeing you.
