Welcome to news and updates from Hillingdon Cycling Campaign! Hi, I’m Sophia and I live in West Drayton. I’ve been looking after Hillingdon Cycling Campaigns social media pages and would love to hear from other people who want to promote safer cycling in our borough. If you have any ideas or want to help get involved to boost LCC’s presence in Hillingdon, please email me at
[email protected] or tweet @Hillingdon_LCC (we'd also appreciate a Follow!).
WHAT’S INVOLVED? ORGANISE A MEETING: Could you help to arrange a regular (bi monthly) meeting for local cyclists to get together? This could be in a local café or community centre.
CALL FOR CHANGE:
With
other local cyclists, could you arrange to speak to, or meet representatives from the local council to discuss problems for cyclists in the area or make suggestions
for improvements? We can offer full support with this from the central LCC office.
ORGANISE A RIDE OR EVENT: Are you a budding ride leader? Or do you organise led rides already? Fancy organising a ride on behalf of Hillingdon Cycling Campaign? This could be a short family friendly ride, or a longer trip. We can help to organise ride leader training and promote the event. Or maybe you’re a skilled bike mechanic who could run a workshop to teach others how to fix minor repairs?
SIGN UP FOR RIDE UPDATES! Some of our members in Hillingdon are keen to organise some easy, social rides in the borough. If you’re interested in joining one of these rides, please email
[email protected] to be kept up to date with details!
FREE RIDES AND TRAINING Hillingdon Council offer a number of free guided rides for all the family, along with free cycle training. Find out more: http://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/cy cling
SPACE FOR CYCLING In July we delivered over 10 000 petition signatures from people across London in support of Space for Cycling, to the leader of the council in Hillingdon - Cllr Ray Puddifoot. We’re yet to get a response, but will update you if we do!
WHAT ARE WE CALLING FOR? In 2014 we developed a list of ‘space for cycling’ improvements for cycling that we wanted to see in every ward in the borough. You can see all these improvements listed here: http://bit.ly/LCCHillingdon Out of 65 elected councillors in Hillingdon, only 11 of them are currently supporting the campaign. But like other LCC local groups across London, we’d like to ensure that Councillors deliver on their promises. If you can help us, or have any ideas to get more Councillors on board, please get in touch!
[email protected] COMMUNITY ROADWATCH SCHEME Justin Collings, a Police Constable working with the Hillingdon Roads and Transport Policing Command has asked us to pass on a message about the Community Roadwatch Scheme.. “Transport for London is working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service and City of London Police to run Community Roadwatch - a road safety initiative which aims to reduce speeding in residential areas. Community Roadwatch will give local residents the opportunity to work side by side with their local police teams, and use speed detection equipment to identify speeding vehicles in their communities. Warning letters will be issued wh ere appropriate, and the information captured may help to inform the future activity of local police teams. Community Roadwatch is being rolled out across London in phases, with a commitment to reach all London boroughs by December 2015. If you would like to take part in Community Roadwatch, or wish to suggest a residential area where there are community concerns around speeding, please contact your local MPS Safer Transport Team. To take part or suggest an area in the City of London, please contact City of London Police. If you would like further information about the initiative, please contact:
[email protected] END LORRY DANGER We’re supporting the London-wide campaign to end lorry danger across London. In the first half of 2015, all but one of the cycling fatalities on London's roads involved a lorry. Unless urgent action is taken, more people will lose their lives. We’re calling on the Mayor of London to end lorry danger through:
A rush hour lorry ban 'Direct Vision' lorries Stronger enforcement
