BUTLER WOMEN’S SOCCER 2017 Game Notes SCOUTING INDIANA STATE

The Sycamores are 3-3-1 overall heading into the weekend. They will host Fort Wayne on Friday night before traveling to Indianapolis on Sunday. ISU has lost three of their last four matches with the lone win doubling as their only road win of the season (at Green Bay 2-0). Caitlyn Eddy is a weapon up top with a team-high four assists. The top goal scorers are Katie Wells and Reilly Teal (2).

BUTLER UPSETS #10 TEXAS A&M 2-0

The Bulldogs are now 1-0-1 against nationally-ranked opponents this year. BU tied #18 Notre Dame 0-0 in the season opener and knocked off #10 Texas A&M 2-0 last week. Butler’s last win over a ranked foe came back in 2013 when the Bulldogs beat the #11 Michigan Wolverines 1-0 at the Sellick Bowl.

LUEDTKE NAMED BIG EAST GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Hannah Luedtke led the Bulldogs to a banner win at No. 10 Texas A&M on Friday night, denying all five shots faced to score a 2-0 win in College Station. Butler’s fifth-straight shutout victory of the season bumped its overall record to 5-1-1 on the year. Additionally, Luedtke moved into sole possession of eighth place at Butler in all-time career saves (98).

MISSING PIECES

BU goalkeeper Leonie Doege (3-0-1) missed the Texas A&M contest as she traveled back to Germany to play in the U19 European Championship qualification games. BU was also without starting all-conference center back Shannon McDevitt who traveled home to Michigan for a family emergency.

MONAGHAN HITS GAME-WINNER AT #10 TEXAS A&M

Junior Paige Monaghan scored her first goal of the 2017 season at Texas A&M on Friday night. The first goal of the game came off a back heel assist from Halle Stelbasky.

STELBASKY SCORES AGAINST THE AGGIES

Junior forward Halle Stelbasky was credited with an assist on Butler’s game-winning goal at Texas A&M and was also in the box score with her first goal of the season as she beat the Aggie keeper in the final stages of the opening half to give BU the 2-0 edge.

BALANCED ATTACK

Six different BU players account for the team’s seven goals on the season and all nine assists have been recorded by different student-athletes.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2017 team has only allowed one goal over the first seven matches of the season, accomplishing a feat that no other team in program history can match. The best starts in school history include a 9-1 record in 2002, a 7-1-1 mark in 1996 and a 7-2 record in 2001. Getting off to a great start is not new for the Bulldogs. They went 8-2-2 at the start of 2016 and 7-2-1 in 2015.
