BUTLER WOMEN’S SOCCER 2016 Game Notes
Butler at Fort Wayne I September 11, 2016 I Fort Wayne, Indiana I Hefner Soccer Complex
HANNAH LUEDTKE NAMED BIG EAST GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Luedtke posted back-to-back shutout victories last week, beginning with a three-save performance against Indiana State on Thursday. The sophomore then followed up with a pair of saves in a 4-0 victory at Fort Wayne, with both blocks coming in the first half. Luedtke’s goals against average improved to 0.68 and her save percentage increased to .815, both marks which rank second in the BIG EAST this season.
KYRA COOKE NAMED BIG EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Butler posted back-to-back clean sheets in wins over Indiana State and IPFW last week. Cooke anchored a defense which allowed just 11 shots over two games as the Bulldogs held a 40-11 advantage in shots, including 21-6 on goal. Butler also held its opponents to just two corners while accumulating 17 of its own.
SERINA KASHIMOTO MAKES BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Kashimoto totaled six points off two goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs. Against Indiana State, the senior had a hand in all three goals, scoring two (including the game-winner) and dishing on a third.
PAIGE MONAGHAN IGNITES OFFENSE
Paige Monaghan has been very aggressive for the Butler offense over the last two matches. The sophomore forward took five shots in the victory over Indiana State. She returned to the starting lineup on Sunday to take a season-high nine shots on the road at Fort Wayne. Her best game of the season came against the Mastodons on Sept. 11. Monaghan scored two goals and added two assists to record six points, a total that has not been reached at Butler since the 2010 season when Katie Griswold helped BU defeat Miami Ohio.
BUTLER OFFENSE ERUPTS AT FORT WAYNE
Butler set multiple season-high totals at Fort Wayne over the weekend after defeating the Mastodons 4-0 at the Hefner Soccer Complex. Team game-highs included 12 points, four goals, four assists, 24 shots and 14 shots on goal. The 4-0 shutout of Fort Wayne was also a season-high in point differential for the Bulldogs.
BATTLE OF INDIANAPOLIS
Bragging rights will be on the line for Butler and IUPUI as the cross-town rivals meet for the 15th time. Butler holds the upper hand in the all-time series and has been victorious in recent head-to-head matchups. IUPUI last defeated Butler during the 2010 season, a match held at the Butler Bowl. The two teams have one common opponent this year in Indiana State. BU won 3-0 against the Sycamores while the Jaguars posted a 2-1 victory back on Aug. 28.
MAC HERMANN TROPHY WATCH LIST
Serina Kashimoto has been named to the 2016 Women’s MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List (NSCAA), a prestigious individual award in college soccer presented annually to the outstanding male and female players of the year. As a junior, Kashimoto was named First Team All-BIG EAST, First Team All-Northeast Region, and Second Team All-America.
