(1) DRURY PANTHERS (25-4) vs. (8) FINDLAY OILERS (22-7) NCAA-II MIDWEST REGIONAL Saturday, March 16, 6 p.m. O’Reilly Family Event Center Radio: JOCK 98.7 FM (www.jock987.com) Webcast: www.b2tv.com

GAME INFO TOP-SEED PANTHERS PLAY FINDLAY IN NCAA-II MIDWEST REGIONAL OPENER Coach Steve Hesser’s Drury Panthers captured their second Great Lakes Valley Conference championship last weekend by beating three East powers - Indianapolis, Bellarmine and Southern Indiana - for the title in Evansville, Ind. Now the real fun begins, as they play host to an NCAA-II Midwest Regional for the first time this weekend, starting with Saturday evening’s first-round matchup against eighthseed Findlay at The O’. The Panthers, ranked seventh nationally in this week’s final NABC Top 25 Coaches Poll, have won 17 consecutive games - most since they made the move to the D-II level in 1994-95 - and are in the NCAA Tournament field for the sixth time in nine years under coach Steve Hesser. Senior guard Alex Hall was the ringleader at the GLVC tourney, scoring a tournament-record 79 points in three games to earn MVP honors. He had 34 points in the title game win over USI. SCOUTING THE OILERS Findlay, No. 22 nationally in this week’s NABC Top 25 poll, is champion of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) after defeating Lake Superior State 71-65 in Sunday’s finals for the Oilers’ ninth win in their last 10 games. They advanced to the finals with a 54-51 win at 24th-ranked (and regional No. 4 seed) Michigan Tech, a late run that pushed Findlay into the eight-team regional field with the automatic bid after the Oilers were ranked 10th in the first three regional rankings. Greg Kahlig, a 6-6 junior, averages 16.9 points and Brad Piehl, a 6-8 senior, adds 11.0 points and 6.2 rebounds to lead Findlay, in its second season under coach Charlie Ernst, an assistant for 20 years for the Oilers before the promotion. OTHER FIRST-ROUND REGIONAL MATCHUPS The Drury-Findlay contest is one of four first-round games set for Saturday at The O’. In other contests, No. 3 seed Bellarmine will play No. 6 seed Indianapolis at noon, No. 2 seed Southern Indiana will play No. 7 Wayne State at 2:30 p.m., and No. 4 seed Michigan Tech will play No. 5 seed Wisconsin-Parkside at 8:30 p.m. Semifinals are set for 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, with Tuesday’s title game at 7 p.m. ALSO ... This will be the first-ever meeting between Drury and Findlay, although the Panthers participated in the 2007 NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional in Findlay’s arena, losing to Northern Kentucky in the first round. ... Hall has scored 567 points this season, one more than his previous career best his sophomore season. It’s also tied for the 16th most in a season in DU history. He’s averaging 25.5 points over his last 10 games. ... Hall passed Matt Miller for third on the DU all-time scoring charts over the weekend in Evansville. He now has 2056 career points, and needs 224 points to catch No. 2 Jerry Alexander. ... Hall has 103 treys this season, and needs 10 more to break Miller’s single-season DU mark of 112 set in 1999-2000. ... Brandon Lockhart, with 251 career steals, has tied former Panthers great Ted Young for the all-time school mark. ... Drury is 39-5 in three seasons at The O’, including 13-1 this year. The Panthers have won 19 of their last 20 games in their new arena.

DRURY HEAD COACH STEVE HESSER Steve Hesser, now in his ninth season as the Drury men’s basketball head coach, has established the Panthers’ program as an annual contender for both Great Lakes Valley Conference and NCAA-II honors. Hesser owns a 189-75 mark in his time at Drury, a .715 winning percentage that ranks among the top in the nation and in Drury’s storied basketball history. His Panthers have now won 20 or more games in seven of his nine seasons and won or shared five GLVC West titles in eight years as a league member. Drury has also qualified for the NCAA-II Tournament in six of his nine seasons. Hesser’s Panthers now have won two GLVC Championships under his watch, with this season’s title joining the one coming in 2007-08, when Drury swept three games at Weiser Gym. His GLVC regular season record since the Panthers joined the prestigious 16-team league is 91-36. Hesser’s teams have been tremendous at home over the years as well, finishing with a six-year mark of 78-13 (.857) in the venerable Weiser Gym before going 39-5 now in three seasons in the 3,100-seat O’Reilly Family Event Center on the DU campus. Overall, Hesser’s DU squads are 113-18 at home (39-5 at The O’), 56-40 on the road, 58-14 in GLVC regular season home games and 44-30 on the GLVC road.

NEWS AND NOTES PANTHERS PICKED FOR SECOND IN GLVC WEST... Drury was tabbed for a second-place finish in the West Division in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll of league coaches, just behind predicted favorite and defending division champ Missouri-St. Louis. UMSL’s Tritons received eight first-place votes and 113 total points, just ahead of Drury’s seven first-place votes and 110 points. Quincy received the remaining firstplace vote and finished third with 89 points, followed by Illinois-Springfield (69), Maryville (63), William Jewell (46), Missouri S & T (41) and Rockhurst (37). Bellarmine is the preseason East Division favorite, followed in order by Southern Indiana, Kentucky Wesleyan, Indianapolis, Lewis, Saint Joseph’s, Wisconsin-Parkside and league newcomer McKendree. ... AND PANTHERS WIN GLVC WEST AND OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP Drury swept through the West Division with a 14-0 record on its way to a 16-2 overall mark in GLVC regular season play, best overall record in the league by two games over East champion Wisconsin-Parkside (14-2). It marked the fifth West title in eight years as a league member for Coach Steve Hesser’s Panthers, who then went to Evansville, Ind., and defeated Indianapolis, Bellarmine and Southern Indiana last weekend to claim the Deaconess GLVC Championship title. Senior guard Alex Hall was named tourney MVP after scoring a tournament-record 79 points in the three games, including 34 points in the 71-65 win over No. 3 seed Southern Indiana in the title game. Hall was joined on the All-Tourney team by senior point guard and teammate Brandon Lockhart. PANTHERS CONTINUE HOME DOMINANCE AT THE O’ After moving from one of the great traditional college basketball environments - the historic Weiser Gym - into the plush, 3,100-seat O’Reilly Family Event Center for the 2010-11 season, Drury’s tradition of taking care of business at home clearly has continued. Coach Hesser’s Panthers are 39-5 in The O’ since the move, including a 13-1 mark this season. Drury had its string of 13 consecutive home wins come to a close with a 90-88 overtime loss to Wisconsin-Parkside on Jan. 5. Prior to that, the Panthers’ last home loss coming to defending national champion Bellarmine (84-65) on January 12, 2012. After beating William Jewell 97-70 at The O’ on February 21, Drury has now won 19 of its last 20 in the new arena and is 13-0 in February games since it opened. The Panthers averaged 1,822 fans for their 14 home games this season, third best in the GLVC and an increase over their averages of 1,714 fans in 2011-12 and 1,528 fans in 2010-11 in the new arena’s brief history. PANTHERS DOING IT WITH DEFENSE Drury’s most impressive outing defensively of the season - the Jan. 24, 78-37 victory at Maryville in a showdown between GLVC West co-leaders going in - continued a trend of strong defensive efforts this season for the Panthers. The 37 points by the Saints were the fewest allowed by Drury this season, and Maryville’s 26-percent shooting for the game was also a season worst for the Saints. The Panthers, who pace the GLVC in scoring defense during the regular season at 61.4 points per game allowed, have now held 24 of their 29 opponents to 70 points or less, including 10 foes held below 60 points and five below 50. HALL LEAVING HIS MARK ON THE DU RECORD BOOKS Senior guard Alex Hall, an All-GLVC choice in all four of his seasons as a Panther - including First Team honors as a junior and senior - continues to climb the DU all-time scoring charts. Entering the NCAA-II Midwest Regional at the O’Reilly Family Event Center, Hall has 2,056 points to rank third on Drury’s career scoring list, having surpassed Matt Miller (2,024 points from 19982002) during the GLVC Tournament title run. The late DU great Jerry Alexander is No. 2 on the list with 2,280 points, and Lonnie Holmes is the all-time scoring king at Drury with 2,341 points from 1991 to 1995. Hall has scored in double-figures in 98 of his 117 career games played at DU. He’s topped the 20-point barrier 43 times in his career and the 30-point mark nine times, including a season-high 34 points in the GLVC title game win over Southern Indiana. He also had back-to-back home games vs. UMSL (2/7) and Maryville (2/9) with 30-point totals, a first in his career. His careerhigh was a 36-point outburst as a freshman at Rockhurst and again vs. St. Gregory’s his sophomore season. Hall now has made a Drury-record 367 career 3-pointers, surpassing Miller (351) for the school mark with his sixth 3-pointer in a 33-point effort at Missouri S & T in the regular season finale on Feb. 28 in Rolla. Hall’s nine 3-pointers in a Dec. 6 win over S &T established a single-game mark for treys, one that Hall previously had done three times and shared the mark with Miller, current DU assistant coach Steven Gum and Tim Oetting. Hall has made five or more 3-pointers in a game a remarkable 27 times in his career, on top of the nine-trey night against S&T, adding an eight-trey game against UMSL on Feb. 9, a six-trey effort this season in Drury’s 73-44 shellacking of Southwest Baptist at The O’ in the Nov. 13 season-opener, as well as in the Jan. 17 win over Illinois-Springfield and in a Feb. 7 win over UMSL. Hall’s 33-point game against Missouri S & T on Feb. 28 helped earn him GLVC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for a third time this season and fourth time in his career. Hall finished the regular season leading the GLVC (conference games only) in scoring at 19.6 points per game, 1.4 points more per contest than runner-up Jeremy Safford of UW-Parkside.

NEWS AND NOTES PANTHERS IN THE NCAA-II TOURNAMENT Drury is making its eighth overall appearance in the NCAA-II post-season tournament, with the current effort preceded by Panther teams making the field in 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. It’s their sixth trip in nine years under coach Steve Hesser. The Panthers are 3-7 all-time in the NCAA-II tourney, with their best finish a loss in the regional finals in 2004. LOCKHART AN ALL-TIME DU GREAT, TOO Senior point guard Brandon Lockhart, also will leave Drury with his footprint all over the DU record books. Lockhart has scored 1,141 points as a Panther, currently No. 27 on the all-time DU list. The St. Louis native needs 22 points to move past Quinn Murphy (1,162 from 1994-98) for 26th place and 38 points to surpass Frank Bennett (1,178) for 25th. Current DU assistant coach Steven Gum is 24th at 1,205 points. Lockhart is No. 5 on the DU charts with 496 career assists, with DU Hall of Famer Nate Quinn next at No. 4 at 514 assists. Lockhart is also tied now with Ted Young (1984-88) for the all-time Drury steals record, each with 251. Lockhart led the GLVC in assists (5.81per game) and steals (3.04) as well as 3-point FG percentage (.485, 33 of 68) during the regular season. He was also third in the league in assist to turnover ratio (1.84) and seventh in average minutes played per game (32.4). Entering the NCAA-II Midwest Regional, Lockhart ranks seventh nationally in steals per game (2.97) and 13th in assists per game (5.8). He was named a First Team All-GLVC selection last week after earning Second Team All-GLVC honors as a junior. STREAKING The Panthers are in the midst of their first 17-game winning streak since joining the NCAA-II level in 1994-95. It eclipsed the 15 straight Drury won in 2003-04, a streak snapped with a Sweet 16 loss to Northwest Mo State in Stephensville, Texas. Longest streak ever by a DU squad? The 20 in a row won to start the season by the 1977-78 Panthers, a year before Drury won the NAIA national championship with a 33-2 finisher that managed a 19-game winning streak. THE GENTLE GIANT Senior Teddy Simniok continues to stack impressive performances inside down the stretch for the Panthers. The transfer from Missouri State-West Plains last season averaged 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. This season, he’s third in scoring (10.1 points) and adding 3.7 rebounds per contest while leading the Panthers with his 61-percent shooting from the field. He led the GLVC in the regular season in conference-only games with his .676 shooting from the field (69 of 102). Simniok had a streak of nine consecutive games of shooting 50 percent or better from the field snapped with a 2 for 5 effort at Quincy on Thursday (2/14), and has shot 50 percent or better in 23 of his 29 games this season. PANTHERS DOMINATE GLVC STATS, APPEAR AMONG NCAA TEAM LEADERS IN SEVERAL CATEGORIES The Panthers finished the regular season leading the GLVC in eight statistical categories - scoring offense (82.0), scoring defense (61.4 points per game allowed), average margin of victory (20.6 points), FG percentage defense (.401), 3-point FG percentage (.426), assists per game (19.58), steals per game (10.69) and average turnover margin (plus 4.27). In the NCAA official D-II stats released this week, the Panthers are second nationally in scoring margin (19.1 points) and 3-point FG percentage (.428), fourth in FG percentage (.511), fifth in assists per game (19.0) and 10th in steals per game (10.0). Individually in the national stats, Alex Hall is fourth in 3-pointers made per game (3.55), sixth in 3-point percentage (.456) and eighth in free-throw percentage (.897), while Brandon Lockhart is seventh in steals per game (2.97) and 13th in assists (5.8). NO BAD LOSSES ON THIS RESUME’ Drury’s four losses this season have all come to teams that have reached the NCAA-II Tournament’s 64-team field. The Panthers fell 72-69 to defending national champion Western Washington (top seed in the West Region) and 82-72 to Saint Mary’s (No. 2 seed in the South Central Region) in a two-game trek to Las Vegas for the Western Washington Shootout in mid-December, before dropping consecutive games in early January to Wisconsin-Parkside (90-88 in overtime for DU’s only loss at The O’ this season) and 72-69 at Indianapolis when the Greyhounds were ranked seventh nationally and unbeaten at 11-0. Parkside is the No. 5 seed and Indianapolis the No. 6 seed in this weekend’s Midwest Regional at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
