Eagle Rock Chapter President’s Message Maraia Roberts, Chapter President We had a total of eight guests at our Membership Annual Drive meeting, very exciting – “Each One – Reach One”, that’s all it takes. MariaElena Kerr, our Membership Chair did a great job putting this event together; it was a total blast, thank you Maria. Our very own Lana Egan was our presenter for the evening and she did a phenomenal job. I am certain that everyone in attendance walked away with some great essentials that are not only pertinent to our professional lives, but relatable to our personal lives. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 3rd. At this meeting, we will be taking care of three very important items, our Membership of the Year (MOTY) banquet, the Beverly Branson Scholarship, and our Nominations for office. As your President, I am very proud of all of you, I have personally witnessed over the years how you have gone above and beyond the call of duty, and you all have my vote; however, in this case for MOTY, “many are called, but only one is chosen”. Please take the time and submit your nominations. Everything we do for each other becomes the adhesive that keeps us together. For office nominations, I can’t think of a better way to set yourself apart from the rest – step up to bigger and better things. Want to broaden your horizons and give your career a boost – then “Be the One to Ignite” and lead us into the next year. I’ll be honest with you, it’s not a walk in the park – it takes hard work, it’s definitely a stretch, takes dedication and commitment, determination and perseverance and you will definitely get out what you put in, but boy I promise you, the returns on your deposits are totally incredible. It’s hard to understand something that you haven’t tried yourself – “to get something you’ve never had, (Continued on page 2)

Member of Excellence Corner Member of Excellence Criteria #8 – Conduct a public presentation, program or training (60 -min. in length). Does this goal strike fear into your heart? Do you break out in a sweat just thinking about it? However, ask yourself when you have grown the most. Is it just sitting back and enjoying the ride, or is it when you step outside of your comfort zone and try something new? I sighed a breath of relief as I finished my presentation on “Admin 4.0—Understanding the Administrative Professional’s Changing Role in the Changing Workplace” at our last Chapter meeting. It was both exhilarating and nerve wracking, but I think it went well. One of the best parts was knowing that I accomplished something that is hard to do, but also completing a goal for myself and signing off the last goal in my Member of Excellence Passport! Yes! I’m done. How are you coming on your goals for MOE? The program runs through the end of June, so you have three more months. The following website will take you to the MOE page and submission form (you must log in as a member): http:// pathways.iaap-hq.org/Pathways/Programs/MemberofExcellence/MemberofExcellenceinfo/ Finish strong! President’s Message (Cont’d) (Continued from page 1)

you have to be willing to do something you’ve never done”. As a member, personal growth and development have been my reasons for joining. However, I didn’t really see the bigger picture until I decided to take on a leading role in the Chapter. I recognize that all of a sudden it’s not about me anymore, that there are others depending on me to make it work, and keep it going. You begin to notice the little things that matter and you develop and establish relationships and friendships along the way that become a significant part of your life. Trust me, it is way more than I expected and I will always be grateful for the experience. Have a great month!

Even Eagles Need a Push “The eagle gently coaxed her offspring toward the edge of the nest. Her heart quivered with conflicting emotions as she felt their resistance to her persistent nudging. “Why does the thrill of soaring have to begin with the fear of failing?” she thought. This ageless question was still unanswered for her. As in the tradition of the species, her nest was located high on the shelf of a sheer rock face. Below there was nothing but air to support the wings of each child. “It is possible that this time it will not work?” she thought. Despite her fears, the eagle knew it was time. Her parental mission was all but complete. There remained one final task – the push. The eagle drew courage from an innate wisdom. Until her children discovered their wings, there was no purpose for their lives. Until they learned how to soar, they would fail to understand the privilege it was to have been born an eagle. The push was the greatest gift she had to offer. It was her supreme act of love. And so, one by one she pushed them, and they flew!” By David McNally Submitted by Jerry Colvin

Just One One song can spark a moment One flower can wake the dream One tree can start a forest One bird can herald spring. One smile begins a friendship One handclasp lifts a soul One star can guide a ship at sea One word can frame the goal. One vote can change a nation One sunbeam lights a room One candle wipes out darkness One laugh will conquer gloom. One step must start each journey One word must start each prayer One hope will raise our spirits One touch can show you care. One voice can speak with wisdom One heart can know what’s true One life can make a difference That one can be you. Submitted by Sheri Andreason, Nominations Chair

Not Those Who Sit Still Inspiration doesn't favor those who sit still. It dances with the daring and rewards the courageous with ideas that excite, challenge, even inspire. Ideas that take you places you never imagined. Ideas big enough to make the heart skip a beat... and in some cases maybe two. ~from a Toyota commercial~ Submitted by Marti Casper
