A L et t er F ro m O u r P res i den t       This  year  has  been  very  exciting  and  eventful  for  our  chapter,  and  it  is  our  great  pleasure  to  share  with  you   many  of  our  accomplishments.  First  and  foremost,  we  welcomed  Beta  Gamma,  our  newest  pledge  class  into  the   fold  of  Epsilon  Pi,  which  has  been  our  biggest  pledge  class  to  date!  They  have  integrated  into  our  chapter  perfectly   and  we  could  not  be  happier  to  call  them  our  sisters.   Epsilon  Pi  has  endeavored  to  maintain  leadership  on  campus  through  academics  and  other  extracurricular   activities.  From  the  Dean’s  list  to  Order  of  Omega,  our  sisters  are  focused  on  achieving  high  honors.  Not  only  are   we  strong  academically,  but  we  also  serve  as  role  models  for  our  peers  on  campus  in  other  ways.  Last  spring   quarter,  we  invited  the  children  of  Madison  Elementary  School  to  take  tours  of  campus  guided  by  our  very  own   Kappas.  It  was  a  “Day  in  the  Life,”  where  Epsilon  Pi  encouraged  the  elementary  school  children  to  excel  in  school   and  aspire  to  receive  a  higher  education.  This  winter  quarter  of  2014,  we  held  our  annual  Reading  is  Key  event   where  we  visited  the  children  of  Madison  Elementary  at  their  own  school  to  share  with  them  the  joy  of  reading  and   to  support  our  national  philanthropy,  “Reading  is  Fundamental”.   We  have  strengthened  our  sisterhood  by  having  events  focused  on  building  bonds  and  ritual.  Some  of   these  events  included  a  sisterhood  Farrell’s  Ice  Cream  Parlor,  Founders  Day  with  the  lovely  sisters  of  Chapman   University,  formal  at  the  Green  River  Golf  Course,  date  party  at  The  Rinks  Corona  Inline,  and  our  own  Scholarship   Dinner  at  The  Old  Spaghetti  Factory.   As  you  can  see  our  chapter  is  not  only  involved,  but  also  thriving  in  the  college  atmosphere.  We  offer  a   unique  and  meaningful  sorority  experience  in  which  each  member  of  our  organization  brings  her  own  strengths   and  ideas  that  continue  to  better  our  organization.  Whether  the  task  is  big  or  small,  each  woman  plays  her  part  by   always  “doing  her  little  perfectly.”  We  are  consistently  excelling  on  campus  and  are  looking  forward  to  carrying  on   this  tradition  in  the  coming  years.

Founders Day Etiam eu ipsum. O n October 13, 1870, our six founders proudly walked into chapel

Donec ac golden arcu. wearing keys in their hair with a dream of establishing an organization for collegiate women. And on that glorious day, Kappa 144 years ago, on October 13, 1870, six brave and inspiring women walked into chapel at Monmouth College wearing golden keys in their hair with the unified goal to establish an organization for collegiate woman that would create bonds across the nation. These six women would famously be remembered as the founders of our Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Gamma. On Kappa Kappa Gamma’s 144th anniversary, Epsilon Pi received our biggest pledge class yet. We had the opportunity to celebrate Founders Day with not only our largest new pledge class but also our local sisters of Eta Sigma from Chapman University, hosted in Downtown Riverside’s historic Mission Inn where sisters ate a delicious brunch and shared stories with recent alumnae. This celebration of our history was a perfect way to connect with sisters and honor our six founders who so proudly gave life to the Fraternity that brings all its members love, friendship, and loyalty.

Parents Day On May 23, 2014, Epsilon Pi Chapter hosted its annual Parents Day luncheon at the Indian Hills Golf Club. We welcomed parents, siblings, grandparents, and alumnae from the surrounding areas to celebrate the many wonderful achievements made by our chapter. Parents Day is a way for our families to learn more about Kappa Kappa Gamma, and how the experience of being in a sorority has made a positive difference in all of our lives. The luncheon also gives families and chapter members a chance to mingle, as well as view pictures and historical documents that tell the story behind Epsilon Pi. Every year, we take the opportunity to recognize a few outstanding members who go above and beyond for the chapter. Awards given at our yearly event highlight the sisters that are most devoted, inspirational, sincere, and loyal. Additionally, we are so very proud of the academic achievements made by the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and acknowledge the members with the highest GPA, and most improved. Kappa Kappa Gamma inspires us to become strong women with exceptional leadership skills, and dedicated to a life of good will, service and sisterhood. We hope by sharing these values with our families at Parents Day, our families will feel more connected to the bonds we share as sisters of this fraternity.

Scholarship Over the last year, Epsilon Pi chapter and the Vice President of Academic Excellence continuously worked hard to improve their academics. This year, our chapter has been above the All Women’s Sorority GPA Average. This past Winter of 2015, our chapter held the highest GPA out of all Panhellenic Sororities at UCR. It is through sisterly support and resources provided by our VPAE that allow us to excel in our studies each quarter. Our VPAE has put extensive thought into new programs of education this year, such as daily library hours, promoting “KKGeek of the Week” using study-selfies, and personal meetings with the Academic Excellence committee and sisters who need extra attention. Also, every quarter, each sister individually sets a GPA goal for herself, and it is celebrated if we achieve our goal at the end of the quarter. It is thanks to the committee of the Vice President of Academic Excellence that our chapter has become so successful in our studies. We continue to strive for our academic excellence, for our academic excellence is a value that we sisters have in common.

Philanthropy Over the past year we have followed old traditions, and built upon new ones. In May 2014, we held our event “A Day In The Life”. This event is when we invited more than a hundred 6th graders to visit UCR and spend the day with us so that we can show them what college is all

The Epsilon Pi Chapter is very excited to say that we have done a lot to uphold the standards that Kappa Kappa Gammas cherish in our philanthropic efforts

about. This event is especially memorable because the students leave UCR excited for the possible futures they can have and the sisters of Epsilon Pi are so ecstatic to be able to encourage this excitement.

In April 2014, we held our second annual Words With Friends Competition with our Monmouth sisters of Pi Beta Phi to promote our respective philanthropies, which support literacy. For this spelling bee and speed-reading event, we received donations of money and books to give to our adopted community elementary schools, Madison Elementary and Rainbow Ridge Elementary.

Various organizations participated in the event and went home with a better understanding of the importance of literacy in children.

On February 12, 2015, Epsilon Pi held our fifth annual “Reading Is Key” event. This year’s theme was “Welcome To The Circus”. This event was hosted at Madison Elementary and the sisters of Epsilon Pi chapter get to spend the day with the first graders of the school. The morning consisted of crafts, snacks, face painting, one-on-one reading to the children, and at the end of the day each child went home with their very own book. This year, we gave each child “Clifford At The Circus” by Norman Bridwell. We also donated books to the library so that the whole school can enjoy the donation.

Chapter Accomplishments Epsilon Pi chapter was crowned first place with the gentlemen of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Delta Tau Delta in the first annual Pillars Week, held by the Fraternity and Sorority Involvement Center.

Three of our sisters of Epsilon Pi have continued with our drive for leadership and have taken Executive Positions on the Panhellenic Council here at UCR. Farrah Wong, is now the Vice President, Sarah Lopinski is the Sisterhood Chairman, and Isabella Gonzales is the Assistant Recruitment Chairman.

Each year, the brothers of Delta Tau Delta hold a Fundraiser Pageant where a member from each sorority participates. This year’s winner of Delta Queen was our sister, Justine Sterling. She worked incredibly hard throughout Winter and Spring quarter and raised nearly $6,000 to be donated to City of Hope Cancer Research

This winter, Epsilon Pi held their first overnight retreat at Lake Perris. No matter the rain or shine, the sisters had an incredible weekend spending time near the lake and with each other.
