EWGA Golf Tip Are you married to your sand wedge for every small chip shot around the green? Being set on one club around the green can be a detriment to your game as it limits shot making. By thinking ahead about the trajectory that you want to create for the chip shot and the distance, you’ll have more information on how to select the most appropriate club for the shot. Use lower lofted clubs for a far pin that you can “bump and run” on the green. Use higher lofted clubs to also “bump and run” the ball on the green when you have a pin close to you. Long chip shots= Select clubs such as 9, 8, 7 or even a 5 iron Short chip shots=Select clubs like a Pitching wedge or Gap wedge Mental Technique: Think of hitting these chips just like putts! Allow the arms to hang down in a relaxed manner and swing your arms and shoulders straight back and straight through to hit crisp and straight chip shots. Be creative around the greens by selecting different clubs to lower your scores!
