Golf Tip - Putting: Eyes Closed -- The eyes have it… now close them!
The Double D of Putting: DISTANCE AND DIRECTION Continuation of Golf Tip Article on Introduction to Putting and Why It Matters
Most golfers want to see where the ball goes before it actually moves. However, the result is more often than not, a missed putt! A simple way to improve your results is to close your eyes. This will minimize the tendency of guiding the putter. Additionally, it will help you to focus on trusting your setup.
For Beginners: Start with closing your eyes just before impact.
Feel the ball leave the putter face and then open your eyes and look!
For Advanced Golfers: Practice putting with your eyes closed after set up and through impact. You will learn to feel your swing and dramatically improve your swing tempo which will help in your distance accuracy.
The peripheral benefits include: Call it!
Before you look, ask yourself did the putt finish left, right, short, or long in relation to the hole. The combination of closing your eyes and calling the putt will help you develop feel and tempo in your putting.
