Originally a Ford Motor Assembly plant, the project is now officially “Ford Point” and it is a mixed-use office/live-work/commercial project. It is an historic landmark building that is the only Albert Kahn structure in the Western United States. The project has been designed to retain the historic industrial character of the 520,000 square feet of floor area in a structure that is a quarter mile long. SWA provided planting and irrigation recommendations, taking the historic context, difficult microclimate and poor soil into consideration and included restoring former grass area, hedges along building facade, gravel parking, and reconnection of the Bay Trail. The landscape including the waterfront required state historic approval. The building now houses a mix of uses including offices, manufacturing, a large space for events and a restaurant.
