Bloomsburg University Cross Country/Track & Field Teams
ALL AMERICAN!
Kaylee Caruso is your newest Husky All-American, as she competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the long jump on Thursday, May 25th. Kaylee jumped a career best mark of 6.32, or 20’9”, placing third in the nation! This marked the end to a stellar career for Kaylee. The senior is a four-time conference champion in the long jump, and also won the triple jump during her junior year. She holds school records in both the indoor and outdoor long and triple jumps, and was named Bloomsburg’s Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Congratulations to Kaylee on the perfect end to a fantastic four years!
PSAC Championship Highlights In his first season back after two years of being unable to compete, Austin Kline made remarkable progress in the 400m. This outdoor season, he ran a personal best time of 48.80 to make the championship final!
Rachael Sullivan had never scored in the top 8 at a championship meet before this year, and now she scored in not only one, but TWO events! Her marks in the hammer throw and discus were both personal bests!
Senior Jake Plachko knocked more than 4 seconds off of his alltime PR in the steeplechase, and ran almost 7 seconds faster than his previous best time of the year. His gutsy effort earned him a 6th place finish!
Amanda Simone won her first conference championship in the high jump this year, and to say it’s a memorable story is an understatement. Amanda didn’t qualify for the conference meet until the meet prior, just barely squeaking in with a 3rd attempt jump at the qualifying height. She went in as the 16th seed, but that didn’t faze her when she got to the apron on Saturday. Amanda steadily and cleanly jumped her way to a personal best for a stunning victory! The BU women made history again outdoors as they scored the most points at a championship meet in the history of the program… by a landslide! The previous record for most points scored was by the 1981 team with 79 points, and our ladies finished off the meet with 108 points total to finish third, only 7 points behind Slippery Rock!
HUSKY WATCH! Sophomore Kirsten O’Malley will be one to watch as we look towards the future for BUTF. As the indoor 400m champion, Kirsten shifted gears to trying the 400m hurdles this outdoor season. In only her third time racing the event, Kirsten made the championship finals and ended up placing 6th. But that wasn’t even the highlight of her weekend. In the long jump, Kirsten hit a big personal best to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Florida! She competed along with Kaylee in her first ever nationallevel competition this month. We are so excited about what’s to come for Kirsten!
