Post-Season Reflections The 2017 PSAC Cross Country Championships brought out the best in the Husky XC squads, as Cal U’s challenging, hilly course did not faze this group! Their trust in the race plan led to a number of stand-out performances! Just last year, Alana Jacaruso placed 57th at the PSAC Championships. This year, she was our number one finisher, astutely racing to a sixth place, All-PSAC finish. Just behind her in seventh place was Hannah Boudreau, recording her fourth All-PSAC honor of her cross country career. This seventh place finish marked the highest of her career. The men’s team saw three All-PSAC finishers in Nick McGuire (20th), Danny Dugan (22nd), and Daniel Neiswender (28th). The last time the Bloomsburg Men’s Cross Country team saw three All-PSAC finishers was in 1993! This was the first All-Conference honor for both McGuire and Dugan. The widespread team effort, toughness, and trust within the men’s team lifted them to a sixth-place finish overall out of sixteen teams.
This year’s NCAA Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships were held in Lock Haven, and the contrastingly flat, fast course resulted in some huge personal bests for the Huskies. Junior Samantha Strype had a stand-out race, besting her previous fastest time by a full minute. The sub-24-minute breakthrough was a long time coming for Strype, and she did it here by 26 seconds! Sophomore Madison Mimnaugh ended her first year of running cross country with another big personal best—coming through as BU’s third finisher with a time of 23:15. Alana Jacaruso and Hannah Boudreau were again the Huskies’ top finishers, earning All-Region honors! The men’s 10K race was another strong one for the Huskies, who went out with confidence and came back with a sixth place finish overall. Six of the top seven runners came away with personal bests in their gutsy effort! Tom Moser and Declan McDonald were the third and fourth finishers on the Husky squad behind Dugan and McGuire, who just narrowly missed out on All-Region finishes. Moser and McDonald both had outstanding runs to cap off a very strong year for them. The future of this team looks very bright, with a group of underclassmen who are proving ready to consistently uphold key roles in the coming years!
