Winter Training Trip Our 2017 started off in one of the best ways we could imagine… with a winter training trip to Puerto Rico! 19 of our student-athletes spent a week working hard and enjoying some of the island’s most beautiful spots! Working out in the mornings gave us plenty of time to explore for the rest of the day. The Guajataca Forest was a gold-mine of adventure, where we were able to hike through the rainforest, swim under waterfalls, and even explore a cave! Staying close to the beach also gave us ample opportunities to relax and enjoy the sunshine and waves, not to mention a snorkeling excursion to cap off our awesome trip. It certainly was one to remember!
Relay Reactions We are fast approaching the PSAC Indoor Conference Championships on February 25-26, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t already put down some huge performances! We’ve had some especially exciting showings from our relay teams this past month—check out these standout results! Women’s DMR Team: Sarah Gottchalk, Amber Csrenko, Teresa Ortiz, Hannah Boudreau This fast foursome sits at #13 in the nation with their time of 12:03.80, a time they ran during their first ever race together as a unit. They head to Boston this weekend in an effort to improve their time and race against other top-notch teams. Women’s 4x400m Relay: Sarah Gottchalk, Lauren Rivera, Kirsten O’Malley, Alyssa Barthelmes No other women’s 4x400m relay team at Bloomsburg has ever dipped under 4:00 indoors, but these ladies did just that at this past weekend’s meet at Youngstown State. Their time of 3:57.50 shattered the previous school record, and ranked this team at the #2 spot in the conference. The team has high hopes for the outdoor season as well, as their indoor time is also over a second faster than our current outdoor school record!
Men’s DMR Team: James Wilson, Austin Kline, Kyle Klosinski, Eric Heatwole The Youngstown State Invitational proved to be a profitable trip for the Huskies, highlighted by our men’s DMR performance on the track. Their time of 10:23.55 narrowly missed the school record, and earns them the #1 seat in the conference! Men’s 5K: Daniel Neiswender, Danny Dugan, Jake Plachko, Zach Bitner It may not be a relay, but it is worth noting that no other event is as stacked with conference qualifiers as the men’s 5K. These athletes pushed one another during the cross country season, and it is clear that they didn’t stop there. All four men sit within scoring range at the conference championship meet. All the best, and stay warm!
