Verbal Instruction With input and assistance from the group, students will work to show an understanding of time to the hour and half hour.

Section 1 : Instruct students to listen to the following instructions: 

“Brenna goes to swimming class at 4 o’clock. Draw both a digital and analog representation of 4 o‘clock.”

Section 2: Instruct students to listen to the following instructions: 

“Breakfast starts at 7:30. Draw both a digital and analog representation of 7:30.”

Section 3: Instruct students to listen to the following instructions: 

“Science starts at 2 o’clock and ends half an hour later. Draw both a digital and analog representation of when science ends.”

Section 4: Instruct students to listen to the following instructions: 

“Dinner starts at 5 o’clock and ends one hour later. Draw both a digital and analog representation of when dinner ends.”

Group Presentation Sample Probing Questions 

What were you being asked to do?

Share with us how you completed each task.

What is the difference between a digital and an analog clock?

In your own words, describe the role of the hour hand in telling time. Describe the role of the minute hand in telling time.

What does it mean when the hour hand points exactly to a number?

What does it mean when the hour hand is half way between two numbers?

What did your group find to be a challenge when completing this task?

Reflective Closure 

Were students able to work together as a group?

Were most groups able to complete their tasks?

Were students able to verbalize the mathematical content?
