GAME NOTES OPENING TIP The last two Centennial Conference champions meet today inside Bream Gym as Gettysburg and Haverford aim to break the tie atop the conference standings. ALL-TIME SERIES Gettysburg had won 27 of 28 meetings with Haverford before the Fords won all three contests a year ago, including a 61-49 victory in the Centennial Conference semifinals. LAST MEETING Haverford dispatched Gettysburg 61-49 in the conference semis on the way to the program’s first league title last season. The lead never changed hands as the Fords opened with the game’s first seven points and led by as many as 14 in the second half. Caroline Murphy ’14 produced 13 points and nine rebounds in her final game as a Bullet, while Emily Duggan ’16 contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds. Nina Voith led the Fords with 18 points. LAST TIME OUT Gettysburg suffered its first loss of the season as Muhlenberg held on for a 47-46 victory on Saturday. The Bullets missed on two shots in the paint late in the contest and then were unable to get a last-second shot off before the buzzer. Gettysburg shot a season-low 26.7 percent in the contest. Junior Jessica Porter was the team’s lone double-figure scorer with 22 points. Porter also grabbed a dozen rebounds, while junior Emily Duggan added 10 boards.
NATIONAL RANKS Gettysburg ranks fourth in the nation in scoring defense (46.7 ppg) and second in defensive field-goal percentage defense (27.1 percent). Gettysburg finished as the national leader in defensive field-goal percentage in 2012-13. CALL IN THE RESERVES Gettysburg’s bench production has been outstanding this season led by freshman Emily Gibbons and senior Samantha Pagel. At 9.6 and 9.4 points per game, respectively, Gibbons and Pagel are the only players ranked among the top 28 in scoring without a single start in the conference. As a team, Gettysburg’s bench has out-scored its opponents 251-141. BACK TO FORM After an injury-plagued sophomore campaign, junior Jessica Porter is back among the conference’s elite. She has scored in double-figures in all but two games and she is tied for fourth in the conference in scoring at 15 points per game. Porter has also turned in four doubledoubles this season, one shy of her career high. SCOUTING THE FORDS... Haverford suffered its first conference loss of the season to McDaniel last Saturday 61-57. Freshman Anna Schrecengost converted backto-back lay-ups to pull Haverford in front 5756 with 1:19 remaining, but a three-pointer by Steph Perez handed the lead back to the Green Terror for good 17 seconds later. Jacquelyne Pizzuto scored 10 points and dished out 10 assists against McDaniel. Elizabeth Lynch and Anna Schrecengost each scored 13 points, wihle Sierra Berkel tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
