Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE January 26-29, 2011 Loyalty to Believers—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it is your turn, say: My most valuable material possession is . . . It’s important to me because . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Acts 4:32-35
Truth • God expects believers to be loyal to each other. Untruths • The Bible doesn’t really say much about loyalty. • God stays in heaven and doesn’t care about how believers treat each other. • You take care of yourself first, then worry about others.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: Say: How hard is it to get a team of football or basketball players to communicate, agree on plays, and cooperate to win? Discuss responses. Say: Imagine trying to get 8,000 people to hear and act on the same message. Point out that cooperation was a great challenge for early believers. Explain that only God’s power could get 8,000 people to agree, cooperate, and remain loyal to Him and to one another. Say: His power caused a multitude of new believers to have the same mind and heart toward sharing and ministering together. Emphasize that God is powerful enough to help your family have the same heart and the same mind for cooperation and service to Him. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Lead in prayer by asking God to help you and the members of your family take actions to show loyalty to each other. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Reviewing the events of your day with a parent is called “debriefing.” Plan to meet with one of your parents each day this week to describe highlights or challenges you faced. Thank your parent for listening. Ask him or her to pray for you each day this week while you are at school.
