2. Read Scripture: Matthew 10:28
Truth • God alone deserves our respect and reverent fear. Untruths • I don’t have to respect anyone or anything. • I only have to worry about those who can hurt me. • God doesn’t have the power to do anything to anyone.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: Say: After I read a sentence, you say Agree or Disagree. Read each of the following sentences and allow family members to respond. • Today’s verse instructs us to only fear God. (Agree) • The worst thing that can happen to you on earth is for you not to be popular. (Disagree) • The worst thing that can happen to you on earth is to lose your life. (Disagree) • Our lives should show that we honor and respect God alone. (Agree) • We should worry when friends think we are not part of the “in” group. (Disagree) • We should live in fear of something bad happening to us or those we love. (Disagree) 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Say: Starting with the youngest in our family, I am asking each of you to say the following phrase, “Father, we love and fear you as our God.” When all have finished, close in prayer. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Ask your parents to identify five people they admire and why they admire these individuals.
