HARVEST CELEBRATION Next Thursday 10th October we shall be holding our annual harvest celebration at school. All pupils from years 1-6 will be attending the celebration in the hall, which will be led by year 4. All year 4 parents and carers are welcome to attend. The celebration assembly will begin at 9.10am. As is traditional at this time of year we shall be collecting non-perishable goods, such as tins and packets to give to the ‘Help the Aged’ charity. Please send all donations to class with your child. Children in Nursery and Reception will be having their own celebration in their classes. DEBATING On Wednesday, 2nd October, a group of Year 5 children attended a Debate Boot Camp hosted by Brentford School for Girls. In the morning, the children learnt about the key elements of debating skills and were then coached by Year 8 students in how to turn their ideas on a given topic into structured arguments. In the afternoon, the children had the opportunity to take part in formal debates with children from other schools. All members of the group picked up these new skills remarkably quickly and gave performances to be proud of. A special mention must go to Kira Nugent, who was awarded the prize for Best Speaker out of all the children there on the day. “Most of all I enjoyed the debate against children from the other school. It was especially challenging because we didn’t know what level of skill to expect from them.” - Malih “I really liked taking part in the debate in the afternoon. I’d never heard of rebuttals before, but I actually managed to use one when it was my turn to speak! - Kira DIARY DATES 10th October 11th Oct 17th October 23rd October 23rd October 24th October 25th October 28th October 4th November 18th November 20th December

BLACK HISTORY MONTH Black History Month happens every October in the UK and provides a wonderful occasion to celebrate the diversity of our society and the contributions Black and Asian men and women have made to the development of British society, technology, economy and culture. During October every class in the school will be focusing on developing their knowledge and understanding of other cultures. This will happen through research, listening to stories, singing, dancing, cooking and many other activities. You will receive a letter shortly with information about the specific activities that have been planned. Please note we do ask for a contribution where special activities have been arranged. BA CONSTRUCTION CHALLENGE

On Wednesday Year 6 took part in the Heathrow Construction Challenge. They were visited by an engineer who challenged them to build an airport terminal out of newspaper! Through detailed designing, strong teamwork and cooperation and the engineering marvel of the newspaper rolling stixx machine all the children successfully completed the challenge. The hall was full of giant 3D geometric shapes representing terminals that had to hold up to 6 children. All the children learnt many different skills from strengthening shapes to communication and working together.

HOUSE CAPTAINS The following children have been elected to the position of House and Vice Captains by the other members of their houses throughout the school. Congratulations to them and we trust they will be great role models for all the children. Captain
