IMMIGRANTS IN NORTH CAROLINA: VITAL TO OUR ECONOMIC FUTURE The state of North Carolina benefits from the presence of immigrants, who provide vital contributions to the economy and to community life. •

In North Carolina, 7.4% of the population and 9.7% of the labor force is foreign-born.



More than half (51.8%) of the immigrant population are homeowners.



16.9% of children in North Carolina live with at least one foreign-born parent . 84.2% of these children are citizens of the United States.



Of North Carolina’s immigrant population, 85.4% is of working age (between 16 and 64 years of age).



8.6% of North Carolina’s immigrant labor force is self-employed.



Within the immigrant population, the majority are employed in the Construction (17.8%) or Manufacturing (16.9%) Industries.

Immigrant Tax Contributions in 2011 On average, immigrant workers in North Carolina paid $1,682 in State Taxes and $2,705 in Federal Taxes .

The total tax contributions by immigrant laborers were $1,136,327,535 in State Taxes and $709,250,244 in Federal Taxes.
