Winter Fun It has been a pleasure to engage with your children outdoors with these WinterKids Winter Games events. I have been so pleasantly surprised to see how much our Edgecomb Eddy students love to be outside and participate in creative play. We are extremely grateful to the following local people and organizations who have collaborated with our school for these events: WinterKids Andy Bezon & the Midcoast Conservancy; Lisa Packard & Morris Farm; Tracey Hall & the Boothbay Region Land Trust We have had a blast and look forward to closing out our Winter Games this week. We hope you all enjoy the pictures of our kiddos in action. - Mr. Michaud

Incoming Pre-K Open House & Ice Cream Social Do you have a child turning 4 on or before October 15 that you may want to attend public Pre-K? Do you know someone in the area who does? If your answer is “yes” to either of these questions, then you should contact Edgecomb Eddy. We have a list for next year that is started and growing, and we would love for you to come and see what we have to offer. We are holding an Open House on Wednesday, March 21st, 6-7 pm. Come and tour the school, meet the teachers, and see what Edgecomb Eddy is like. If you are unable to make it, we are also flexible about arranging tours during the school day. Just give us a call at 882-5515 and we’d be happy to meet with you.

A message from the front office… • If there are any changes in your child’s regularly scheduled plan, please submit a note in the beginning of the day to your child’s classroom teacher or the office. It is difficult to juggle sign-outs, end of the day happenings, and last minute changes via phone calls. Your note clearly specifying the new plan right at the beginning of the day would be appreciated. • Parents should not be walking through the hallways or heading directly to classrooms. We appreciate parents waiting in the lobby area if they have come to pick up their children at the end of the day. If parents need to pick up their children earlier than the scheduled end of the day, please check in with the front office and we will have your child sent down for dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation with both these items.

Pre-K In Pre-K we have been celebrating the WinterKids Winter Games. During the outdoor week we spent time exploring trails at EES with Tracey Hall from the Boothbay Region Land Tr ust. She pointed out a gray squirrel nest up in a tree, several animal tracks, and we counted how many pine needles are in one little bundle from a pine tree. For nutrition week we taste-tested honeydew melon and kiwi, learned about important foods that should be on our plates, and sorted foods into their correct groups. In closing nutrition week on Friday, we taste-tested a fruit and veggie smoothie with the K/1 class and made a Venn diagram to show if we liked or disliked the smoothie. After counting the results, we learned that most of the Pre-K through 1st grade students really enjoyed the fruit and veggie smoothie. Besides the WinterKids Winter Games we have made some frozen sun catchers, which will also be used for bird feeders. Look for these hanging out front next week! In our learning centers students have been counting and comparing numbers, learning what tally marks are and how they are used, learning the names of 3D shapes and finding them in our classroom, and our new game is called PenguinPile up! Students need to have steady hands to put each mini penguin on the iceberg. If one Penguin falls off they all fall off. It has been fun and exciting working together to be successful. Thank you to all who sent items from our January wish list. We have been putting them to good use! Next week we will be learning about Penguins and (hopefully soon) celebrating the 100th day of school! - Mrs. Casey

News from Grade 4 Math and Literacy: It has been a month of expected and unexpected interruptions, but the fourth graders are forging on. We welcome a new student to our group. Julian lost no time in becoming a positive addition to the class. Tristan, Lei, and Alli have all become Fast Fact Fellows (+ and - facts.) The rest of the class is closing in fast. In the meantime, we’re all working on learning the multiplication facts, charting data, and turning word problems into equations. Our Big Idea in language arts this month is “We express ourselves in many ways.” This includes an exploration of genres, different purposes and types of writing, and several non-literary forms of expression. ~ Ms. Rose
