Week 2

Get Their Attention! (3 minutes) Materials: None

INTRODUCE yourself & the kids by saying: Welcome back to FearBusters! My name is (your name)!

Need to Know: Prayer is (make praying hands) Talking to Jesus! (point up)

Bible Story: Jesus Stops a Storm Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:1, 35-41; Luke 8:22-25

We are going to learn everyone’s names by playing a game. We’ll start with the first person who will tell us their name and someone they love to talk to. INTRODUCE kids to what we are learning today: I’m so glad you love to talk to those people. Last week, we learned that we can bust our fear of those things with prayer. Prayer is just talking to Jesus like you would talk to your parents or friends! That’s what we need to know today: Prayer is (make praying hands) Talking to Jesus (point up)!

___________________________________________________________ Bible Story (5 min)

Materials: God’s Story for Me Bible Fear Balloons Candy Coloring Sheets Crayons Filler Guide

FearBusting Verse: “You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly.” Proverbs 3:24

Materials: God’s Story for Me Bible

READ today’s “FearBusting Verse” (on left) to the group. DISCUSS with the group that when we are afraid at night, or any time, we can pray by talking to Jesus! READ p.340-345 from God’s Story for Me Bible (“Jesus Stops a Storm”). ASK: 1. When the disciples were afraid of the storm, who did they talk to? (Jesus, p.342) 2. Did Jesus stop the storm or get scared of the storm? (Stopped it, p.343) 3. Can you talk to Jesus when you are afraid like His friends did? (Yes) 4. Are you ever afraid at night or during a thunderstorm? (Yes) What can you say to Jesus to help you not be afraid? (Allow responses) If you are afraid, you can stop and pray. When we pray, Jesus will answer us and help us not be afraid! Prayer isn’t hard. It’s just talking to Jesus! That’s what we need to know today (have kids repeat after you): Prayer is (make praying hands) Talking to Jesus (point up)! ASK kids to close their eyes & bow their heads. Model prayer for kids by PRAYING: Jesus, you control everything, and you can help us not be afraid. Thank you for always being here for us to talk to. We love you! Amen.
