If you need to have a meeting about your child, please call or e-mail the teacher about your concerns. We are here to work with all parents to improve every child and their ability to succeed. From the Nurse's desk.... Hope everyone had a great holiday break! Now it’s time to get back to business. Parents, remember we are doing head checks in the elementary, middle and high school will be checked next. Please check your children at home if they have telltale signs of head lice. These include an itchy head, whitish nits glued to their hair, or actual lice crawling on the scalp. If you need help or advice for treatment, please call me at 564-0904. Thank you for your vigilance and hard work! Encourage your children to keep up the good work of hand washing and covering their coughs and sneezes. Children running fever of 100 or above please keep at home. If a child starts running fever at school of 100 or more will be sent home. We are not out of the flu season yet, these good habits will help stop the spread of germs and viruses. Thank you for all your help and cooperation, we have some of the best families in the world right here in Kingston! Keep up the good work, everybody! Monti Walker, RN

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and was able to do a lot of reading. I know I finished off two books I had been trying to find time to read. I love reading children’s books and then giving book talks or simply recommending them to students. It’s almost time for our spring Scholastic Book Fair! We are so excited! Please mark your calendars for February 1st through February 9th. There will be many exciting new books for children (and adults) of all ages. We are very blessed to be able to raise a lot of money through our book fairs to be able to purchase new books for our library – and it is all thanks to great parents like you. Because our fair is held in our library, and because we still have classes in here throughout the day, it can get really hectic. We would love to have several parents (or grandparents) volunteer to help during the fair. You can volunteer for an entire day or simply for an hour or two. Early morning from 7:30 to 8:30 is one of our busiest times. If you are interested in volunteering contact me at the school or through my email – [email protected]. Sequoyah Book Club is still going strong with 26 faithful members. The students by now have finished two books as a group and at least one book on their own. Many members have read 3 or 4 books and more on their own! We will be creating advertising posters for each of the Sequoyah books to hang in our hallway, so be sure to check them out in the coming weeks! Karen Thomas Elementary Librarian

KES Chess/Math Club KES Chess/Math Club was started last year as an enrichment program. I felt the elementary school needed such a program to encourage students who love math to reach out to something new This years Chess/Math Club is open to last years members and teacher recommended 2nd - 5th grade. It is limited to 25 participates. We meet every Tuesday from 3:30 - 5:00. We have Math challenges from 3:30 - 4:00, with the winners receiving small prizes. Promptly at 4, the students compete against each other in Chess. They are instructed to inform each other if they are about to make a bad move. One Chess Tournament was held at the end of the school year. This year we hope to expand and possibly challenge surrounding schools that may have Chess Clubs.....we'll see. Please let me know if any other info is needed. Deborah Lamb KES Chess/Math Club Sponsor chess
