Jean Dupuy (RW) Number: 27 Position: Right Wing Shoots: Left Height: 6.03 Weight: 176 Better late than never After Alex Gudbranson was selected 10th over all by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection, and Nathan Cull went in the second round 30th overall, the Black and Gold did not have a third round pick. In the fourth they selected Warren Steele 64th overall and in the 8th, Spencer Green at 150th. The ninth….the tenth….eleventh… and twelfth rounds would all go by with out a name being heard. It was not until almost the end of the thirteenth round, with the 3rd last selection, was the name Jean Dupuy called out by the Frontenacs scouting staff that May afternoon. Dupuy (Pronounced Doop-wee), was a teammate with Alex Gudbranson with the Ottawa 67’s minor midgets and Jean had decent numbers in his draft year. In 29 games, he had eight goals and 23 points along with 8 minutes in penalties. In his first OHL training camp in the fall of 2010, “Doops” turned some heads with his willingness to drive the net and compete for the puck. “I guess you can say better late than never, (about his draft spot)”, said the rookie. “My first camp I was quiet and just wanted to learn,” said the bilingual native of Orleans. “I mean there was Ethan Werek, Erik Gudbranson, Taylor Doherty, all guys drafted to the NHL. After a good camp, Dupuy was sent to play Junior A with the Hawksbury Hawks where he recorded one goal and three points in eight games, and also played with the Ottawa 67’s Midget club were he had 12 goals, 24 points and 52 penalty minutes in 26 games. His play-off season was

continued from previous page ... not very long, as the 67’s played just six games, but “Doops” had three goals and five points in those contests. “Last year I had my ups and downs, but I never lost my focus,” said #27 for the Frontenacs. Fast forward into training camp in August of 2011 and the energy, spunk and willingness to compete and elevate his game caught the attention of the coaching staff. “He had a really good camp, competed hard and earned a roster spot,” said Head Coach Todd Gill. With the new regime in place off the ice and a plethora of new bodies on it, Dupuy had the chance to make his mark. Playing his “energy guy” role, the rookie worked hard on the ice in games, off the ice working out, and learning in practice. Everything was looking up for the 17 year old first year winger when… “I got hit it the eye with a ball playing mini-sticks.” As fans may well know, all players are billeted with families when they live in the City of Kingston, unless you are a local boy like Darcy Greenaway. A number of these billet families with the Frontenac’s have younger children. These children become like younger brothers or sister’s to the player billeting with the family. “I was just playing around, you know, and by freak accident it hit me in the eye,” said the Orleans native. Unfortunately for Dupuy, this meant that he was unable to play in games. Diagnosis? Bruised retina. “Yeah, it sucked but what can you do?” Returning to the line-up after playing in four of the eleven games in November, Dupuy came back with the “birdcage” look. “I played my whole life with one so it’s not like it’s a bother,” said “Doops”. If 2011 was a tad unlucky, 2012 started off with a bang for the freshman. On New Years Day, Dupuy scored his first OHL goal. On the assists were two other rookie brethren, Warren Steele and Andrew Tessier. “It was nice to get that off my back,” said a smiling Dupuy. And as he said earlier better late than never.
