Billy Jenkins (LW) Number: 10 Position: Left Wing Shoots: Right Height: 5.10 Weight: 165 Billy Jenkins Growing up in Stittsville, Billy Jenkins was always one of those kids who loved to play the game. It showed as Jenkins progressed up the hockey ladder, and ended up with the Ottawa Valley AAA Titans in his minor midget year. That year saw Jenkins play many games against his now current teammates, with some epic battles. “The Jr. Ottawa 67’s had Guddy (Alex Gudbranson), Lloyder (Adam Lloyd) and Dups (Jean Dupuy) that year”, said the curly haired 17 year old. Ottawa Valley also had Jesse Lussier, the Frontenacs 12th round selection in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection playing that season. “It was great because…WE BEAT them in the finals,” said a Cheshire cat grinning Jenkins within earshot of Adam Lloyd. Jenkins also played against another teammate, Warren Steele, who played with the Upper Canada Cyclones in the same loop. That season Jenkins but up huge numbers offensively, scoring 40 goals and 96 points in 65 games for the Titans. It also put him in the OHL crosshairs as a potential young gun. “I had a good season and I heard from a number of teams leading up to the draft,” said the Ottawa native. “I, like everyone else on my team where looking forward to the draft,” he added. Jenkins didn’t have to wait long. With their first pick in the second round, the Niagara IceDogs stepped up to the plate and grabbed him with the 25th pick overall.

continued from previous page ... “I was excited and was happy to be going to Niagara,” said Jenkins. That year, the IceDogs had two first round selections and chose two defenceman, Jesse Graham at 6th and then Luke Mercer at 8th. They also has a second second round pick and chose Joel Wigle 39th. “My first year was definitely a learning experience. I played mostly fourth line and then was a healthy scratch for a number of games,” said the Frontenacs #10. Unfortunately, that trend continued into the play-offs as Jenkins did not play in any of the 14 contests. “Yeah, that wasn’t fun,” said the second year forward. “But as they say, what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.” Jenkins finished his first OHL campaign with 40 games played, scoring once and adding an assist and was -3. This year Billy returned to St. Catharine’s a year older and wiser and ready to make this mark. Starting the season, he found himself on the third line, and playing regularly. He put up a respectable five points in his first twelve games….and then General Manager Marty Williamson decided to “load up” for a run at the OHL title. “I found myself playing fourth line again,” said Jenkins. Queue Doug Gilmour and his rebuilding process in Kingston. Gilmour made a call, made an offer to Williamson and on January 5th, Jenkins became a Frontenac with a 10th round in 2016 in exchange for Guelph’s 2nd in 2012 (previously acquired in the Max Domi trade), Windsor’s 8th in 2013, and a 3rd in 2014. “I was excited as I was getting a new start and a new opportunity,” said the left winger. “I knew Kingston was young and rebuilding, and it gave me the chance to play more.” The flashy forward paid immediate dividends for the Black and Gold, scoring four points in his first three games. But the best was yet to come. Placed on a line with rookie Ryan Kujawinski and Trevor Morbeck, the line scored 30 points in a five game stretch with Jenkins adding two goals and ten points over that time. “We clicked and we all benefitted from it,” said Jenkins. Since the trade in January, Jenkins has appeared in 27 games with the Frontenacs scoring six goals and 22 points with a -5 rating. He has seen his ice time increase immensely as his 10-17-12 line plays power play, is considered first or second line and is out there at important times during the game. “It’s been great since coming over,” said the sophomore winger. “I can’t wait until next season to come back a year older and a year wiser. We have worked hard and our efforts will definitely pay off. We are gaining great experience and it will show,” he added.
