La Crescent Secondary School Board Report To: La Crescent –Hokah School Board and Superintendent Cardille From: Steve Smith – Principal (512) Date: February 2016 This last month the middle school and high school participated in a penny drive for the La Crescent Animal Shelter. We raised over $250 for the cause. The shelter came to our PBIS assembly to accept the check and tell us about how the money was going to be used. They also pointed out the other groups in the community that support the shelter all year. It was good for our students to see and hear how their work will pay off. The registration process has begun for 8th through 11th grade. Students are learning about graduation requirements, college requirements, and the importance of selecting courses based on need and not social reasons. Abby Kemp and Lisa Massman hosted a parents night for 8th graders to learn more about that type of planning. Freshman were in collaborative and participated in a Google Hangout to learn about their options. This worked very well for the first time through. I recently sent a letter via sky mail addressing the results of our survey from last spring and updated our parents on what we have been working on at the high school and middle school. Here is a link to that letter for your review. Parent Letter 2016 Our Winter seasons are winding down and tournaments are beginning. I had a chance to attend the gymnastics meet on senior night. It was a packed house and the girls did well. I went from there to the “Green Out” for Mario Miller at the boys basketball game and that was also well attended and had great spirit. We continue to wish Mario the best in his health challenges.
