Message from the Head Teacher Dear Parents and Carers Welcome back and Class Names As we approach the end of our 2nd full week of term I wanted to take the opportunity to write to you all, welcoming you back for another fantastic year of learning here at Longlands Primary School. It has made me so happy to see the children returning to school after the summer break with such enthusiasm, ready to start in their new year groups. The past two weeks have been filled with lots of opportunities for classes to engage with their new teachers, teaching assistants and other adults around the school and gain an insight into the kinds of things they will be learning about over the coming year. Additionally, the children have been finding out about some of the famous artists that have inspired our change in class names. The artists used to represent the different classes are as follows: Reception Mrs Rossiter’s class has been named after Andy Goldsworthy Mrs Salisbury’s class have been named after Leonardo Da Vinci Key Stage 1 Miss Gayson’s class have been named after Roy Lichtenstein Miss Foley’s class have been named after Pablo Picasso Mrs Phillips’ class have been named after Wassily Kandinsky Key Stage 2 Miss Brook’s class have been named after Quentin Blake Miss Proud’s class have been named after Claude Monet Mrs Ward’s class have been named after Laurence Lowry Mrs Michie’s class have been named after Henri Matisse Mr Lawless’ class have been named after Andy Warhol Mrs Leighton’s class have been named after Joan Miro 1
Clubs and Activities Monday
As you can see, the names have been drawn from a wide and eclectic range of artists and it will be fascinating to see how these masters influence the artwork of the classes they are named after. Years 3 and 4

This week children in years 3 and 4 have visited Tesco’s. This is part of their Farm to Fork initiative which aims to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of where food originates from and how it is made. During the trip the children had a chance to visit the bakery, the warehouse and engage in an activity on exploring the range of countries from which food is sourced. The staff commented that as well as the children thoroughly enjoying this event, their behaviour was excellent. Staffing Updates Mr King; Mr. A King our new Deputy Head has thoroughly enjoyed his first few weeks at Longlands. He has also written an introduction about himself, this can be viewed as a news item on the school website. Miss Blythe-Brook; Miss Brook and Blake class have settled into their routine and are enjoying getting to know each other. Mrs Pearce has taken over the role previously fulfilled by Mrs Cooper in the school office. I am sure you would all want to join me in welcoming them to Longlands and wishing them every success and happiness at our school. Safeguarding Children Safeguarding our children is of the utmost importance to all members of staff at the school. We have a duty to re-view our procedures regularly. We are considering some procedural changes which will be discussed with the governing body next week. I will be writing to all parents shortly with the outcomes and recommendations of this review.
