Mentoring Program 1. Duration of the mentoring relationship Mentoring relationships take time to develop. The minimum time for the mentor/mentee relationship should not be less than six months. The formal mentor/mentee relationship within the program may last up to one year. • •
The kick off for the initial mentoring initiative is March 5, 2018. Participation in the mentoring program is highly suggested for first year State Directors.
2. Matching of Mentor and Mentee The mentors and mentees will be asked to identify their strengths and needs within the MEP. The Mentoring Initiative Coordinator will then analyze this information to match mentors to mentees appropriately. When appropriate, mentors and mentees may also be matched based on their region.
3. Mentor-Mentee Mismatch Matching mentors and mentees is not an exact science. If, for whatever reason, a match does not work we will work to find a new match. • • • •
The MEP Mentoring Initiative Coordinator will check in one month into the mentoring process to see if the match is profitable for all mentors and mentees. If a problem arises an attempt to resolve it should be made. The Mentoring Initiative Coordinator will check in with the mentors and mentees separately. If necessary, the Mentoring Initiative Coordinator will dissolve the match as early as possible and assign a new mentor.
