PARCC Testing
Our Learning Math: We began unit 6. We delved into the conceptual understanding of geometry (G.1). We engaged in a sorting activity where we discovered that shapes can be considered as more than one shape due to their mathematical classification. We also transitioned into piloting the highest rated math program, Eureka Math, with this concept. We learned how to compare and classify quadrilaterals and other polygons, draw polygons with specified attributes to solve problems, and reason about composing and decomposing polygons. When we come back from break, we will learn hot to reason about composing and decomposing polygons using tetrominoes, create a tangram puzzle and observe relationships among the shapes, reason about composing and decomposing polygons using tangrams, review what we learned, have an assessment to test the effectivity of the piloted program, and engage in a STEM experiment where students will explore 3-dimensional shapes. Shared Reading: We began comparing and contrasting two texts by the same author to analyzing the texts’ story elements and discover the author’s craft (RL 3.9). We did this by analyzing Patricia Polacco’s Thank You Mr. Falker and The Art of Miss Chew. After break, we will wrap up comparing and contrasting Patricia Polacco’s books and anlyzing Chris Van Allsburg’s craft of writing by reading Jumanji and Zathura. We will compare and contrast these books in groups and complete independent practice covering the same skill to prove our mastery in the reading skill. In grammar, we learned how to decode multisyllabic words by identifying common syllable patterns for effective decoding (ie vowel + silent e, open, closed, controlled r, etc.) (RF 3.3.C). Next week, we will begin reviewing all grammar concepts learned in preparation for the quarter 3 ELA outcome assessment. Writing: We concluded our informational writing unit. We learned how to capitalize titles, peer edit our pieces, and had a writing celebration to showcase our pieces. After break, we will begin a new unit of writing: fairy tales (narrative). We will learn how to adapt classic tales, write story adaptations that hold together, story tell-plan-anddraft adaptations of fairy tales, and tell and act out as we draft our writing pieces (W.3.3). Social Studies: We will continued social studies by integrating it into reading (communities, history, etc.) and reading our PARCC passages. After break, social studies and science will continue to be taught in a interdisciplinary manner due to the schedule changes with PARCC.
Celebrations • There were no birthdays this week. • Zoe will be our star student. Great job for showing excellent character and hard work!
Reminders A big thank you to
PARCC testing begins moms the the weekPTO we come back for from break. setting up a great

Many students are missing headphones. Please know that the school does not provide headphones for PARCC, which is a mandatory tool to take the test. Please check in with your child to ensure they have working headphones. Please check in with your child to see if they need to replenish any school supplies for the remainder of the year. Many students do not have dry erase markers.
