Our Learning Math: We began time (MD.1). Students reviewed the concept of telling time on an analog clock to the hour, 5 minutes, and half hour. Students also learned how to write time in the short hand word version (quarter till, quarter after, and half past). Finally, we learned about units of time (seconds in an hour, minutes in an hour, hours in a day, and days in a week). Shared Reading: We began unit 1 with its focus standard being determining the central message in a literary text (RL.4). We read two poems to practice the skill. Students partook in whole class discussions, anchor chart making, and rationalizing key details on our smart board. Next week, we will practice the concept in pairs and independently. Then, we will begin delving into informational texts and practice asking and answering questions. Daily 5: We continued building our reading stamina. We were also introduced to a new station: work on writing. Students learned about basic writing centers and practiced building stamina in writing. We will learn about reading to someone (partner reading) next week. Social Studies: We will begin geography next week. Writing: We continued establishing writers workshop by sharing our journals and creating writing seed ideas in our notebook. We will begin narrative (memoir) writing next week.
