Measurements are for 6 inch (9 inch, 12 inch) block Uses 3 different fabrics Cut Fabric A – First focal fabric 2 squares – 3 inches (3 ¼ inches, 4 ½ inches) 4 squares – 2 inches (2 ¾ inches, 3 ½ inches) Fabric B – Second focal fabric 2 squares – 3 inches (3 ¼ inches, 4 ½ inches) 4 squares – 2 inches (2 ¾ inches, 3 ½ inches) Fabric C – Corner squares 4 squares -‐ 2 inches (2 ¾ inches, 3 ½ inches) Start out by making 4 half square triangles Take the 2 Fabric A 3 inch squares and the 2 Fabric B 3 inch squares and match them right sides (printed sides) together.
Take your ruler and draw a line from one corner to the opposite corner along the diagonal.
Using the line marked, draw another line ¼ inch away from it. Repeat on the opposite side of the line. You now have three lines.
At the machine, sew along both outside lines. Now carefully cut along the middle drawn line, this will ensure you have ¼ inch seam.
Once you have all four pieces done, take your pieces to the ironing board and press the seam to the darker fabric side. You now have 4 new blocks.
Trim the 8 half square triangles to 2 inches (2 ¾ inches, 3 ½ inches)
Lay out the 4 squares as illustrated. With the half square triangles, start with the windmill in the center.
Add the Fabric A and Fabric B squares on the top, bottom, and sides. The Fabric A square touches the Fabric A triangle in the windmill. The Fabric B square touches the Fabric B triangle in the windmill.
Insert the Fabric C corner squares.
